EFCC trial of Malami, El Rufai won’t intimidate opposition, says ADC

The African Democratic Congress has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prosecution of former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and ex Kaduna governor Nasir El Rufai will not intimidate opposition politicians or weaken the party’s resolve. ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi described the cases as “selective prosecutions” that appear politically motivated. He argued that while the party supports the fight against corruption, recent EFCC actions give the impression that the agency is being used as “a gladiator in the political arena rather than an impartial warrior against financial malpractice.” Abdullahi warned that targeting prominent opposition figures risks undermining public confidence in anti graft institutions. The ADC also condemned the alleged attempt to arrest El Rufai at the Abuja airport and the tear gassing of his supporters during a protest at the EFCC headquarters. The party said such incidents look […]

PDP Govs Slam ADC Over Zamfara Meeting Criticism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has defended its recent meeting in Zamfara State, accusing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of politicising insecurity instead of showing empathy to victims of bandit attacks. The ADC had criticised the PDP for holding a political meeting in Zamfara, only days after dozens of residents were killed by bandits. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the PDP governors of being insensitive and urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara. ADC said: “Instead of rallying around their colleague to help stop the killings, PDP governors staged a political show in a state still mourning its dead. Their pictures in ceremonial attire, smiling for the camera, were insensitive.” Responding, the Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Emmanuel Agbo, described ADC’s comments as “irresponsible,” […]

Tinubu gov’t desperate after Japan visa denial

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of spreading misleading information after Japan denied creating a special visa category for Nigerians. Japan’s foreign ministry clarified on Monday that it had no plans to introduce visas specifically for Nigerians or any African nationals. The statement read:“There are no plans to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special visas for residents of African countries. Reports suggesting otherwise are not true.” This directly contradicted an earlier announcement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information at the State House. On August 22, Oladunjoye claimed that Japanese authorities had agreed to introduce a special visa for highly skilled Nigerians interested in working in Kisarazu, and that artisans willing to upskill would also benefit. Reacting to the denial, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, criticised the federal government, saying it was desperate […]
