Navy destroys 12 illegal refineries seizes 531500 litres of crude

The Nigerian Navy says it has dismantled 12 illegal refineries and recovered 531500 litres of stolen and illegally refined petroleum products in the first quarter of 2026. The operations were carried out under Operation Delta Sentinel, the new maritime security effort that replaced Operation Delta Sanity II in the Niger Delta. Director of Naval Information Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said troops also arrested 18 suspects linked to crude oil theft and related maritime crimes between January and March. He explained that the operation includes enhanced surveillance, better intelligence sharing and a quarterly review system to keep pressure on oil thieves. According to him, February recorded the highest haul with 360700 litres recovered, followed by 118800 litres in January and 52000 litres in March, showing continued activity by illegal refiners despite sustained patrols. Five killed as tanker crushes schoolchildren’s tricycle in Bayelsa

Five people, including four schoolchildren and a tricycle driver, have been killed after a fuel tanker crushed a Keke Napep in Ibelebiri community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.​ The crash happened on Wednesday afternoon along the Ibelebiri section of the Yenegwe–Okarki–Otuasega road, throwing the mainly farming and fishing community into mourning.​ Eyewitnesses said the victims were returning from school when the tanker, suspected to have suffered brake failure, veered off the road and rammed into the parked tricycle. FG warns of fresh flooding in Lagos, Adamawa, 12 other states

The Federal Government has issued a fresh warning of possible flooding in Lagos, Adamawa, and 12 other states, urging residents in high-risk communities to take precautionary measures. In a flood prediction bulletin released on Tuesday by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment, heavy rainfall is expected between September 16 and 18 across 14 states and 52 communities. Nigeria, Angola Sign New Bilateral Deals After 24-Year Pause

Nigeria and Angola have revived their Bilateral Joint Economic Commission after a 24-year hiatus, sealing fresh agreements to boost socio-economic, cultural, and political cooperation. Thieves Electrocuted While Stealing Streetlights in Nigeria.

In Bayelsa State, Nigeria, two suspected thieves lost their lives while allegedly attempting to steal solar-powered streetlights in the Ogobiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area.The tragic incident occurred near the Niger Delta University's New Site and the Ogobiri roundabout.
