Refugees return home as Nigeria–Cameroon repatriation pact kicks in

A tripartite agreement between the Federal Government, Cameroon, Borno State and the UNHCR for the voluntary return of Nigerian refugees from Cameroon has begun yielding results, with displaced citizens now going back home. Ndume urges FG support for Borno IDPs resettlement amid insurgency

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has called on the Federal Government to urgently support Borno State in resettling, reconstructing and rehabilitating victims displaced by over a decade of insurgency. He made the appeal during a Christmas luncheon he organised with the Coalition of Christian Youths for IDPs at the Christian Association of Nigeria Centre in Borno.​ The event drew hundreds of displaced persons, traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures and community stakeholders. Police deploy 1000 officers after Maiduguri mosque bombing

The Borno State Police Command has deployed more than 1,000 officers across Maiduguri and other key locations in the state after the bomb attack on a mosque that killed five people and injured 35 others. The explosion happened on Wednesday evening at Al Adum Mosque in the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri while worshippers were observing the Maghrib prayer. On Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Borno, ASP Nahum Daso, said the command had stepped up security measures in response to the attack. Police deploy special squads ahead Tinubu’s visit to Borno

The Borno State Police Command has deployed special security teams across Maiduguri ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the state. The visit, scheduled for today, will see the President commission key projects and attend a high profile wedding ceremony.​ Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Daso said the state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has rolled out a robust security operation for the visit. Governors of the North-East states have raised concerns over looming humanitarian and economic challenges in the region, warning of potential flood disasters and a possible food crisis if urgent action is not taken. The governors, under the North-East Governors’ Forum, sounded the alarm in a communiqué issued at the end of their 12th meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Saturday.
