Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has called on the Federal Government to urgently support Borno State in resettling, reconstructing and rehabilitating victims displaced by over a decade of insurgency. He made the appeal during a Christmas luncheon he organised with the Coalition of Christian Youths for IDPs at the Christian Association of Nigeria Centre in Borno.
The event drew hundreds of displaced persons, traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures and community stakeholders. Ndume commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his exceptional commitment to humanitarian recovery, particularly in insurgency hit areas like Gwoza Local Government Area.
Responding to IDPs’ requests to return home, the Borno South senator assured them he would engage Zulum directly to facilitate their safe repatriation. He pledged to help bring back those at Minawao Camp in Cameroon to their Borno communities.
Ndume announced distribution of 200 bags of rice and cash aid: 30 bags to Youth-CAN, 20 for the luncheon, 100 to CAN Centre IDPs, and 50 to other camps. He said similar support would reach Bayan Dutse IDPs from Ngoshe, Ashigashiya, Pulka and nearby Gwoza communities.
Rev. Waziri Dibal, Chairman of Indigenous Pastors of Borno, thanked Ndume and appealed for sustained government backing for returns. Borno Christian Youths Chairman Barr. Ephraim Yidawi urged more youth involvement in repatriation and reintegration.
Beneficiary Dr. Yohana praised Ndume’s presence as a symbol of unity and empathy. APC’s Hon. Luka Apagu Mussa and Camp Chairman John Gwoma Haghaya commended both Ndume and Zulum’s humanitarian leadership.

Ban on sale of sachet alcoholic drinks remains – NAFDAC
NAFDAC says the crackdown on manufacturers and distributors of sachet alcohol has already begun, with arrests and seizures recorded across the South East zone. The NAFDAC Zonal Director, South East, Dr Festus Ukadike, disclosed this in an interview in Enugu, adding that the next phase is to mop up remaining sachet alcoholic products still in the market. Residents in several Lagos communities are counting their losses after torrential rainfall flooded homes, roads, and businesses across the state. NANS seeks probe of alleged crisis at Osun Poly
The National Association of Nigerian Students has called for an independent investigation into the alleged administrative crisis at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. The student body said the situation at the institution is affecting academic performance and student welfare. NANS claimed there have been concerns over poor governance, weak academic delivery, financial mismanagement, and administrative inefficiency at the polytechnic. It also alleged that students have faced repeated disruptions, poor examination arrangements, and other challenges that have affected learning. UK officers investigated over dying teen’s arrest
Two police officers in the UK are under investigation for possible gross misconduct following the death of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, who was handcuffed and arrested while suffering from fatal stab wounds. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) announced the investigation after reviewing the officers' actions at the scene. Henry Nowak was stabbed to death in December 2025 by Vickrum Digwa, who used a large blade he claimed to carry because of his Sikh faith.
