Presidency Says Tinubu Won’t Use EFCC To Harass Opposition Over Defections

The Presidency has rejected suggestions that President Bola Tinubu is weaponising the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against opposition figures in order to pressure them into joining the ruling All Progressives Congress. It described such claims as baseless and the product of a “failed opposition” running out of issues to campaign on.​ In a statement issued in Abuja by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said Tinubu would never deploy the EFCC to harass, intimidate or blackmail political rivals. Tinubu reviews clemency list, drops high-risk offenders, orders secretariat’s relocation

President Bola Tinubu has approved a revised list of individuals to benefit from his constitutional prerogative of mercy, granting pardons and sentence reductions to selected convicts. The review followed consultations with the Council of State and public criticism of the initial list released earlier in October. According to the Presidency, the review was conducted under Section 175(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the president to grant pardons and exercise clemency. Individuals convicted of serious crimes, including kidnapping, drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal possession of firearms, were removed from the list. Some offenders previously slated for pardon had their sentences reduced instead of being fully released. Inflation will soon hit single digit, Presidency assures Nigerians

The Presidency has assured Nigerians that inflation will fall to a single digit soon, a development it says will make life easier for citizens. Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Tope Fasua, gave the assurance on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. Fasua said food prices are already beginning to stabilize as inflation eases, citing new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
