12 Reps dump opposition for APC, ADC ahead of 2027 polls

Twelve members of the House of Representatives have defected from their parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. The lawmakers, drawn from different geopolitical zones, formally notified the House of their decision in separate letters read during plenary by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas. Most of them cited prolonged internal crises, leadership tussles and irreconcilable differences in their former parties as reasons for dumping their platforms. Those who moved to the APC largely came from the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party and other opposition parties that have been battling factional disputes since the last election cycle. Others chose the ADC, which has been positioning itself as a major opposition force and actively courting sitting lawmakers ahead of 2027. Analysts say the latest […]

Tinubu to opposition: Elections not won on social media

President Bola Tinubu has told opposition figures and party supporters that elections are decided by voters in communities, not by debates on social media. He spoke through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Renewed Hope Ambassadors Strategic Summit in Abuja. Tinubu urged members of the All Progressives Congress to take government policies and messages directly to wards, markets, campuses and other grassroots areas. He said this face to face engagement is vital for countering misinformation and building trust ahead of the 2027 elections. The President also called for peace within the party in Benue State. He appealed to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to reconcile with Governor Hyacinth Alia so that APC leaders in the state can work together on security and development. Tinubu praised Akume’s long public service career and […]

2027 polls: APC, four parties set as 16 others battle candidate crises

With less than a year to the start of candidate submissions for the 2027 general elections, only the ruling All Progressives Congress and four other parties are considered ready, while about 16 others are entangled in leadership and candidate selection crises. The situation follows the release of the 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which has intensified pressure on parties to put their houses in order. The APC is seen as the most organised, with President Bola Tinubu widely expected to seek a second term and face little or no internal challenge for the presidential ticket, even though party leaders insist the race remains formally open. A few smaller parties, including some with regional strength, have also begun early consultations and are close to resolving their presidential and governorship choices. In contrast, major opposition platforms like the […]

Presidency: Amaechi misled Nigerians on new tax law

The Presidency has accused former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi of misleading Nigerians with false claims about a new tax law that allegedly allows automatic deductions from bank accounts. In a statement, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said Amaechi’s comments about “Tax Act No 25” and post 2027 enforcement were untrue and designed to create fear. Amaechi had claimed in a viral video that if the ruling All Progressives Congress remains in power after the 2027 elections, a tax policy would activate automatic debits on bank transfers and balances. He questioned why the law was not already in force, suggesting it was being delayed to avoid public backlash before the next polls. Onanuga dismissed these statements as “egregious lies”, insisting there is no provision in Nigeria’s new tax framework that authorises such automatic debits from citizens’ bank accounts. He alleged that […]

Ogba: El-Rufai should face DSS over seized passport

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chidi Ogba, has urged former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) over the seizure of his international passport. Ogba said there is nothing wrong with making himself available for questioning if he is confident he has done nothing wrong. Security agents recently intercepted El-Rufai at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after his return from Cairo, Egypt, and confiscated his passport. His lawyer condemned the incident as an attempted arrest without a warrant and described the seizure of the passport as unconstitutional and an abuse of power. Ogba, however, argued that instead of relying only on public sympathy, El-Rufai should formally present himself to the DSS or any relevant security agency to clear up any issues. He maintained that submitting […]

Cubana Chief Priest vows to work against Obi in 2027

Socialite Cubana Chief Priest has said he will work against Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election. He made his position clear during an exchange with followers on Instagram. A fan had asked him directly if he would be working against Obi in the next election. In response, Cubana Chief Priest answered yes and said it was not a crime, noting that he had actually worked for Obi in the last election even while serving as a special adviser to an APC governor. His remark sparked mixed reactions, including from a follower who referred to his past issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Cubana Chief Priest brushed this off, saying that in Nigeria one has not really made it if they have never been invited by the EFCC. The conversation later touched on Biafra and support from the […]

Tinubu’s foreign trips strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships – Yilwatda

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, says President Bola Tinubu’s foreign travels and meetings with world leaders have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s global partnerships and attracted major investment commitments. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said Tinubu’s trips are “purposeful actions” focused on economic cooperation, trade expansion and strategic alliances, not mere ceremonial visits. He noted that since taking office in May 2023, the president has visited key countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, including the US, UK, France, Germany, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brazil. According to Yilwatda, these engagements have helped reposition Nigeria on the global stage and yielded “sustained diplomatic and economic outreach” with measurable gains. He stated that Nigeria has secured over 50 billion dollars in foreign direct investment […]

Northwest APC hails Abba Yusuf’s defection as best political move

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northwest has hailed Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling party as one of the best political decisions of the current dispensation. Party leaders described the move as a defining moment that will reshape Kano politics and strengthen the region’s alignment with the Federal Government under President Donald Trump’s administration in Nigeria. In a statement, APC stakeholders said Yusuf’s decision would fast‑track infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery by placing Kano at the centre of national policy and economic decision‑making. They argued that operating in synergy with the Federal Government offers Kano better access to projects, programmes and political stability than remaining in the opposition. The Northwest APC also framed the defection as a homecoming for Yusuf, who previously belonged […]
