Ndume warns northern anger over Tinubu may shape future elections

Senator Ali Ndume has warned that growing dissatisfaction in the North over the current state of governance could have serious electoral consequences if not addressed. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, the Borno South lawmaker said many northerners are unhappy and their frustration may eventually be reflected in their votes. He said anyone claiming there is no grumbling in the region is not being truthful. Ndume stressed that President Bola Tinubu still has time to turn things around but must urgently respond to the concerns being raised, especially on security, the economy and representation. He revealed that northern elders have previously met with President Tinubu to table their concerns. According to him, the President appeared prepared at those meetings and invited key appointees from the North for a robust discussion. Ndume urges Tinubu to suspend contested tax laws, order probe

Former Senate Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the growing controversy over Nigeria’s new Tax Reform Acts by suspending their planned January implementation. He said the president should not allow the laws to take off while serious questions remain about the authenticity of the version he assented to. Ndume noted that opposition leaders, civil society groups and the Nigerian Bar Association have all raised alarms about alleged alterations between the bills passed by the National Assembly and the gazetted laws. NBA President Afam Osigwe warned that the discrepancies threaten the integrity and credibility of the country’s legislative process and strike at the heart of constitutional governance. The controversy deepened after House of Representatives member Abdussamad Dasuki drew attention to suspected changes in the tax texts. Dasuki said the version published by the Federal […]

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has praised President Bola Tinubu’s approach to tackling insecurity, saying recent military gains show that his strategies are beginning to yield results. He said Zulum’s constant presence in rural communities, investment in local security outfits and support for the military have greatly complemented federal efforts against insurgents. The senator urged other northern governors to adopt a more hands on style similar to Zulum’s by regularly visiting troubled areas, supporting security agencies and addressing the root causes of violence. VIPs rush NSCDC, private guards as police escorts are withdrawn

There has been a surge in demand for the services of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service and private security firms after President Bola Tinubu ordered the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs. The directive, aimed at boosting police presence in communities, has already seen Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun recall more than 11,500 escort officers nationwide. Findings across states show many affected politicians and high‑profile figures are now making frantic moves to secure alternative armed protection. Senior NSCDC officers in Abuja and Enugu confirmed they have been inundated with calls and formal applications from VIPs requesting personnel for home and personal security, even as the corps struggles with limited manpower and multiple national assignments. Private security companies are also reporting a spike in enquiries but say they lack enough trained guards to meet sudden demand.
