Otti to predecessors: No law says I must live in Govt House

Abia State governor Alex Otti says no law compels him to live or work from the Government House in Umuahia, despite threats by some former governors to sue him over the issue. Speaking at a media parley in Umuahia, Otti said he is ready for any legal challenge and has already consulted his lawyers. He noted that after studying the Constitution, he found no provision that forces a governor to reside in a particular location. Otti explained that he currently operates from his private residence in Nvosi because the Governor’s Lodge and offices in Government House were left in a deplorable condition by previous administrations. He said the facilities are being rebuilt, including a new governor’s office, and insisted he owes no one an explanation for his temporary base. His comments followed recent threats by former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, […]

Atiku has been contesting presidency since my NYSC days, says Baba Ahmed

Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed, says he is shocked that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is still seeking the presidency in 2027. He recalled that Atiku has been pursuing the nation’s top job since his own National Youth Service Corps days and has already contested several times without success. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Baba Ahmed argued that Nigeria urgently needs a new generation of leaders. He said many capable Nigerians are ready to address the country’s problems but are discouraged by an expensive, difficult political system dominated by godfathers and broken promises. He stressed that his comments were not a declaration for the 2027 presidential race. Baba Ahmed explained that he only reaffirmed his membership of the Labour Party and did not announce any ambition, adding that future decisions will depend […]

Otti says visit to Nnamdi Kanu is about peace not politics

Abia State Governor Alex Otti says his recent visit to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre was driven purely by a search for dialogue and peace, not by any future political ambition. He spoke while receiving the Abia Diaspora Commission and Abia Global Medical Mission team in Umuahia, reacting to a viral video accusing him of using the visit to build higher political plans. Otti said differing opinions are normal in a democracy but insisted that disagreement does not automatically make critics right. He stressed that, as Kanu is from Abia and specifically from Umuahia North Local Government Area, visiting him was the responsible thing for a governor from his home state to do. The governor restated that he has no intention of contesting any election after completing his tenure. He said that once he finishes […]
