NAF denies espionage claims over C-130 landing in Burkina Faso

The Nigerian Air Force has rejected reports that its C-130 transport aircraft currently in Burkina Faso was engaged in espionage or was forced to land by Burkinabe authorities. In a detailed clarification, NAF described the claims circulating online as false, misleading and capable of inflaming public sentiment and straining regional relations. According to the statement, the C-130 was on a duly approved ferry flight from Lagos to Portugal for scheduled depot maintenance when the crew observed a technical issue on 8 December 2025. In line with standard aviation safety procedures, the aircraft diverted to the nearest suitable airfield, Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso, where it made a precautionary landing. NAF stressed that the flight had no operational tasking and was not deployed for any combat, intelligence, surveillance or signals collection mission. Officials said the aircraft carried all required documentation and clearances, […]

FG Says Detained NAF C 130 Plane 11 Soldiers Still Not Released

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a Nigerian Air Force C 130 aircraft and 11 military personnel being held in Burkina Faso remain in detention, days after the incident that led to their stoppage. The clarification follows conflicting media reports suggesting that the troops had already been freed. The aircraft, on a ferry mission to Portugal, reportedly developed a technical issue shortly after leaving Lagos on 8 December 2025. In line with international aviation procedures, the crew made a precautionary landing at Bobo Dioulasso airfield in Burkina Faso, identified as the nearest suitable airport. However, authorities under the Confederation of Sahel States, which includes Burkina Faso, treated the landing as an unauthorised entry into their airspace. The regional bloc subsequently placed its air and anti aircraft systems on high alert and ordered an investigation into the circumstances of […]

Nigeria Sahel allies clash over detained military plane and soldiers

Nigeria and the Alliance of Sahel States are giving sharply different accounts of how a Nigerian Air Force C 130 transport plane and 11 soldiers ended up detained in Burkina Faso. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Bobo Dioulasso on Monday, but the incident has now triggered a wider diplomatic dispute over alleged airspace violations. The Alliance of Sahel States which includes Burkina Faso Mali and Niger insists the Nigerian plane entered its airspace without permission and was forced to land. In a joint statement the bloc called the episode a serious breach of sovereignty and said its air and anti aircraft defences have been placed on high alert with orders to neutralise any further unauthorised flights. Nigerian authorities reject the accusation and say the C 130 crew diverted to Bobo Dioulasso only after detecting a technical fault while […]

AES which groups the military led governments of Burkina Faso Mali and Niger said an investigation showed the aircraft did not have authorisation to fly over Burkina Faso. The bloc condemned the incident as a serious violation of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member states and said its air defence systems had been placed on high alert. Estonia blasts Russia over brazen airspace violation

Estonia’s foreign ministry has accused Russia of violating its airspace, calling the incursion by Russian fighter jets “brazen” and “extremely dangerous.” According to officials in Tallinn, three Russian MiG-31 warplanes entered Estonian airspace without permission on Friday, flying over the Gulf of Finland for a total of 12 minutes. The aircraft reportedly had their transponders switched off, a move seen as a direct provocation against a NATO member state. In response, Estonia summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires to lodge a formal protest. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas described the incident as “an extremely dangerous provocation,” while Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called it “unprecedentedly brazen.” “Russia’s increasingly extensive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a swift increase in political and economic pressure,” Tsahkna warned in a statement. Estonian officials noted that Russia has violated the country’s […]
