Air Peace Suspends Pilot After Port Harcourt Overshoot, Denies Alcohol Claim

Air Peace has announced the suspension of the captain of its Boeing 737-500 involved in the July 13, 2025 runway overshoot at Port Harcourt International Airport. The development follows a Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) report alleging that the pilot tested positive for alcohol, while a cabin crew member tested positive for cannabis. The incident occurred when the aircraft skidded into the bush at the Obafemi Awolowo International Airport, Port Harcourt. In a statement on Friday, the airline clarified that the pilot was grounded for failing to follow go-around procedures despite the co-pilot’s advice—not for alcohol use. It stressed that the alleged test result had not been officially communicated to the airline by NSIB. The airline also confirmed that the First Officer, praised for professionalism during the incident, has been reinstated with the approval of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority […]

Sirika: Air Peace, Others Stalled Nigeria Air Project

Former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hadi Sirika, has blamed some Nigerian airlines for the failure of the Nigeria Air project. Speaking on Channels TV’s Morning Brief programme, Sirika said Air Peace, Azman Air, and United Nigeria Airlines, under the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), disrupted the partnership between the federal government and Ethiopian Airlines. According to him, the project was designed as a public-private partnership regulated by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Sirika denied reports that over N100 billion was spent on the project. He explained that between 2015 and 2023, a total of N5 billion was budgeted, while only N3 billion was released. Out of that, about one-third went to consultancy services, while the rest covered staffing costs. He argued that Ethiopian Airlines was chosen because no Nigerian […]
