Ghana footballer killed in armed robbery attack on team bus
Ghanaian Premier League footballer Dominic Frimpong has been killed after armed robbers attacked his club’s team bus on their way back from an away game. The Ghana Football Association said the incident happened on Sunday night as Berekum Chelsea FC were returning from a league fixture. In a statement, the club said “masked men wielding guns and assault rifles” opened fire on the team bus, forcing players and officials to run into the bushes for safety. The robbery occurred around 10 30 p.m. along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District of the Ashanti Region, according to Ghana police. Police said Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital while receiving treatment.
