Court orders INEC to deregister ADC, Accord, AA, APP, and ZLP

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister five political parties: the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgement on Monday, ruling that the parties persistently failed to meet the electoral performance thresholds set in Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The suit was filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to compel INEC to deregister parties that do not comply with constitutional requirements under the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC regulations.
