The Network for Public Procurement Advocacy and Development (NEFGAD) has faulted the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) over what it described as a “weak and deceptive” response to the 2025 U.S. Fiscal Transparency Report, which indicted Nigeria for failing to disclose procurement contract details. The U.S. Department of State, in its latest review, acknowledged Nigeria’s progress in publishing budget documents and debt obligations but flagged persistent opacity around public procurement, warning that it undermines accountability and weakens governance. The report, which assessed 139 countries and the Palestinian Authority, found that 71 governments met minimum fiscal transparency requirements, while 69 did not. Nigeria was listed among 32 African countries still lagging, alongside Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, and others. Specifically, the report faulted the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation for failing to publish […]

The 2025 Fiscal Transparency Report had listed Nigeria among 32 African countries said to have made little or no progress in the fiscal policy space. While acknowledging that Nigeria had improved in publishing budget documents and debt obligations, the report faulted the country for failing to disclose information on public procurement contracts. It also criticised the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation for not publishing comprehensive audit reports, citing weak institutional independence as a major setback. The report recommended that Nigeria should strengthen the independence of its supreme audit institution, make procurement information easily accessible, and publish timely audit reports of executed budgets. Stop Crying Wolf When There’s No Wolf” – President Mahama Jabs Ntim Fordjour

President John Mahama has issued a sharp rebuke to opposition MP Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, accusing him of fabricating claims about suspicious flights and drug trafficking in Ghana. In a thinly veiled reference to Aesop’s fable The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Mahama urged critics to avoid politicizing national security and wasting resources on baseless allegations78. The clash stems from Fordjour’s recent allegations that two flights—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—landed in Ghana carrying cocaine and large sums of U.S. currency. The claims, which Fordjour described as a call for accountability, were met with skepticism from the government510. Mahama dismissed the accusations as “games of smoke and mirrors,” emphasizing that Ghana’s security agencies are already stretched thin addressing genuine threats like the conflict in Bawku and rising crime7.
