Taskforce Halts Building, Demolishes Illegal Structures at Abuja Estate
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Task Force has stopped ongoing construction at the disputed River Park Estate in Lugbe, Abuja, arresting workers who allegedly violated a subsisting Abuja High Court order. The court had earlier directed parties to maintain the status quo pending resolution of ownership and development rights within the estate. On Wednesday, officials of the task force, backed by security agencies, moved into the estate to enforce compliance. Several workers found on site were taken into custody for disregarding the stop-work order. In addition, the FCT Administration demolished over 30 illegal substructures, citing breaches of planning regulations. Authorities said the affected developers had continued work despite the withdrawal of their lease agreements and a ministerial recommendation that undeveloped plots revert to the government.
