UAE Reports Drone Strike Near Nuclear Plant

The United Arab Emirates has described a drone strike near its Barakah nuclear power plant as a “dangerous escalation” after an attack triggered a fire close to the facility on Sunday. According to the UAE’s defence ministry, three drones entered the country from the western border direction. Air defence systems intercepted two of them, while the third struck an electrical generator located outside the inner security perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi. Authorities confirmed that the strike caused a fire, but no injuries were reported and there was no impact on nuclear safety or radiation levels at the site. The UAE’s foreign ministry condemned the incident, calling it an “unacceptable act of aggression” and warning that the country reserves the right to respond to threats against its security and infrastructure. Officials stressed that targeting peaceful nuclear […]

Zelenskiy says US wants Ukraine war ended by summer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says the United States wants Russia and Ukraine to reach a deal to end the war before the start of this summer. He told reporters that after two days of US brokered talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi, Washington proposed holding another round of negotiations in Miami next week and Kyiv had agreed. According to him, Russia launched more than 400 drones and about 40 missiles in the latest barrage, leaving over 1,000 apartment buildings in Kyiv without heating as families sheltered in metro stations. Zelenskiy said Ukraine […]

The White House has not confirmed talks, but US and Russian representatives are set to meet in Abu Dhabi to discuss the plan. After fierce criticism from Europe, counter-proposals drafted by the UK, France, and Germany modified the initial US plan, removing recognition of Russian-held territories, allowing Ukraine a larger army, and keeping the door open to NATO membership. Zelensky welcomed these changes, calling the plan “doable,” and noting: “Many correct elements have been incorporated.” Despite ongoing negotiations, the war rages on. At least six people were killed overnight in Russian strikes on […]
