Sultan Calls for Unity and Prayer Amid National Challenges
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar , has called on Nigerian Muslims to unite in fervent prayers on Arafat Day for peace, stability, and divine intervention in the country’s growing challenges.
In a statement released on Wednesday and issued through the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) , the Sultan urged all Muslims in Nigeria to use the sacred occasion to seek solutions from Allah.
He emphasized that Arafat Day —one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar—is an opportunity for spiritual reflection, fasting, and supplication for national healing.
“We are calling on Nigerian Muslims to rededicate themselves to good virtues and fervent prayers on the Day of Arafah,” he said.
Why Arafat Day Matters
The Sultan reminded believers that the Day of Arafah is among the most beloved days to Allah. He noted that fasting on this day can expiate sins for the past and coming year.
This year, Arafat Day falls on Thursday, ahead of Eid-el-Adha , one of the two major Islamic festivals marked by sacrifice and charity.
Abubakar encouraged Muslims to take advantage of this blessed time to pray not only for themselves but also for the nation, which faces persistent security threats and socio-economic difficulties.
Challenges Facing Nigeria Today
The Sultan highlighted several pressing issues currently affecting Nigeria:
- The resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the North-East
- Ongoing banditry in the North-West and parts of the North-Central
- Rising insecurity threatening lives and livelihoods
He urged Muslims to persist in their prayers, reminding them of the promise of relief and succor when they turn to Allah with sincerity.
“Pray for peace. Pray for security. Pray for leaders who will guide us with justice.”
A Call for Intelligence Sharing and Support
In addition to prayers, the Sultan urged Muslims to support ongoing security efforts by providing relevant intelligence tips to authorities.
He encouraged the Muslim community to work hand-in-hand with security agencies to restore safety across the country.
As Eid-el-Adha approaches, he extended his warm wishes to all Nigerian Muslims, praying for an accepted Udhiya (sacrifice) and a joyful celebration.
“Let us come together in prayer, reflection, and unity, seeking Allah’s guidance and protection for a brighter future.”

Three Rescued as Rescue Teams Search for Trapped Victims After North Industrial Area Building Collapse
Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate and extract individuals believed to be trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed building in Accra’s North Industrial Area following a structural failure that has left several people injured. According to Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service's communications team, three people have so far been rescued from the scene and are currently receiving medical treatment. Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully rescued 22 kidnapped victims and foiled separate abduction attempts in Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State. The Department of State Services (DSS) has rejected proposals to allow foreign organisations to fund security and intelligence operations in Nigeria through the proposed DSS Security Trust Fund, warning of serious national security risks.
