Salah unhappy after being benched, says Liverpool coach

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that Mohamed Salah was unhappy after being dropped to the bench but described the Egyptian forward as “superhuman” in the way he responded on the pitch. Salah started as a substitute in Liverpool’s recent match, a rare move for one of the club’s key players, and came on to make an impact despite his frustration at not being in the starting lineup. Slot explained that the decision was based on rotation and tactical considerations, noting that Salah has played a huge number of minutes this season and sometimes needs to be rested to keep him fresh for the long campaign. The coach said he fully understood Salah’s reaction, adding that top players always want to start and that his desire to play every game is part of what makes him special. He stressed that […]

Onana dropped as new coach names Cameroon AFCON squad

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been left out of Cameroon’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the Indomitable Lions begin a new era under a fresh head coach. The new coach, whose appointment was recently confirmed by the Cameroon Football Federation, unveiled his first squad list ahead of the tournament, opting to reshuffle the team and leave out some experienced names, including Onana. Onana’s omission comes after a turbulent spell with the national team, marked by his temporary retirement following a dispute at the 2022 World Cup and a later return for international duty. The coach is believed to be focusing on rebuilding the squad around younger players and in‑form options, especially in key positions, as Cameroon aim for a strong performance at AFCON 2025. Reports indicate that the door has not been completely closed […]

Airbus Flags Quality Issue on A320 Fuselage Panels

Airbus has confirmed a quality issue affecting metal fuselage panels on a limited number of its popular A320 passenger jets but says the problem is contained. The planemaker said it has identified the supplier involved and is now inspecting all potentially affected aircraft, although only a portion is expected to need any corrective work. According to Airbus, all newly produced panels already meet required standards, and production is continuing. News of the checks initially sent the company’s shares down by more than 10 per cent in Paris before the stock recovered some of its losses later in the day. The fresh concern emerged shortly after Airbus warned that around 6,000 A320 family aircraft worldwide require a safety related software update. That move followed an incident on 30 October, when a JetBlue A320 flying from Cancun to Newark experienced an in […]

Chelsea vs Arsenal: Arteta warns players not to underrate in-form Blues

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has cautioned his players against underrating Chelsea as the two in-form sides prepare for a high-stakes Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal top the table, six points clear of second-placed Chelsea after 12 matches, but Arteta insists the Blues “fully deserve” to be regarded as title contenders. Both teams head into Sunday’s London derby on the back of big European wins, with Arsenal thrashing Tottenham 4–1 in the league before a 3–1 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich, and Chelsea crushing Barcelona 3–0 in midweek. Chelsea have also recorded three consecutive league wins, tightening up defensively under Enzo Maresca. Arteta praised Chelsea’s recent resurgence, highlighting their fluid attacking play, individual talent and tactical clarity. He described Maresca’s side as “very tough” opponents and one of the teams he most enjoys watching, stressing that Arsenal must […]

Super Eagles and the ‘curse’ of the white Naija jersey

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are once again under scrutiny as fans revive talk of a “curse” linked to the team’s white ‘Naija’ jersey. Since Nike introduced the bold white design with “Naija” emblazoned across the chest, several of the team’s most disappointing results have come while wearing it, turning the kit into a symbol of squandered chances in the eyes of many supporters. The current white strip, launched for the 2024–2025 cycle, features a predominantly white base, green hoops on the sleeves and shorts, and a striking “Naija” inscription in green across the front. It was meant to project confidence and national pride, but has instead become associated with limp displays, missed chances and dropped points in key qualifiers and friendlies. For a footballing nation as passionate as Nigeria, repeated misfortune in the same jersey naturally feeds superstition. Some fans now […]

Guardiola warns Man City can’t afford title race mistakes

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have “little room for error” in this season’s Premier League title race as they try to close the gap on leaders Arsenal. The champions sit several points behind the Gunners and could find themselves further adrift if they slip up again while their rivals keep winning. Guardiola admitted recent dropped points and a surprise Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen have increased the pressure on his side. He stressed that City must treat every league game like a final, warning that any further mistakes could prove costly in such a tight campaign. City host struggling Leeds United next, a fixture many expect them to win comfortably at the Etihad. But Guardiola insisted there are “no easy games” and urged his players to respond with intensity and attacking courage after accusations they were “playing safe” in […]

Chelsea host Arsenal in high-stakes London derby as Man City face struggling Leeds

Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Sunday in one of the Premier League’s standout fixtures this weekend, with both London rivals looking to strengthen their positions in an increasingly tight title race. Arsenal’s sharp, well-organised attack will test a Chelsea side still searching for sustained consistency in what could prove an important early-season marker. Mikel Arteta’s men arrive in west London with growing confidence after a strong run of league form. Their frontline has been incisive, their pressing coordinated and their midfield balance continually improving, with pace out wide and fluid rotations expected to help them dominate possession for long spells. Chelsea, however, carry a notable counter-attacking threat that could unsettle the visitors if they exploit transitions well. The Blues are also buoyed by a commanding 3–0 Champions League victory over Barcelona, a result they hope will spark greater […]

Iran to boycott 2026 World Cup draw over US visa row

Iran says it will boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw in the United States, protesting visa restrictions that could prevent its officials from attending the ceremony. The draw is scheduled to take place in the US, one of the three co-hosts of the 2026 tournament alongside Canada and Mexico. Iranian football authorities argue that current US entry rules and political tensions could stop members of their delegation from securing visas. They insist that all qualified teams should be guaranteed equal access to attend official FIFA events, including the final draw. Officials in Tehran say they have raised their concerns with FIFA, warning that hosting a major football event in a country with strict visa limits undermines the principle of fairness. They contend that sports events should remain neutral spaces, free from political pressure or discrimination. The boycott threat adds […]
