Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he does not expect the club to make any signings in the January transfer window despite mounting injury problems in attack and defence. The Reds spent close to £450 million on new players last summer, twice breaking the British transfer record in the process.
Long term injuries to striker Alexander Isak and defenders Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni have left the Premier League champions short of options going into the second half of the season. Even so, Slot believes the current squad is strong enough and is planning for the remainder of the campaign without new additions.
“That is what I expect,” he said when asked if Liverpool would complete any deals before the window closes on February 2. “But I always say when there is an opportunity in the market where we think we can strengthen the squad this club will always try to do so. But at this moment I expect it to stay mainly the same.”

US Iran war: FG gets N5tn oil windfall amid fuel pain
Nigeria’s Federal Government has earned an estimated N5.13 trillion oil windfall from the surge in global crude prices triggered by the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. However, despite the revenue boost, Nigerians continue to grapple with fuel scarcity, high pump prices and rising transport and living costs. According to industry data cited in the report, the country’s additional crude oil earnings have accumulated over recent months as Brent prices climbed well above earlier budget projections. The war and fears of wider instability in the Middle East have tightened global supply, pushing up prices and generating unexpected income for oil producing nations, including Nigeria. Analysts estimate that Nigeria’s windfall, put at about N5.13 trillion, is based on the difference between the benchmark oil price in the national budget and the much higher average price recorded since hostilities escalated. Dangote Group denies rift with Elumelu, warns of legal action
The Dangote Group has denied reports of a rift between its president, Aliko Dangote, and Tony Elumelu, chairman of the United Bank for Africa, describing the claims as false and malicious. The company said neither Dangote nor the group made any statement suggesting a fallout with Elumelu or disagreements over business dealings. In a statement issued by the group’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, the conglomerate also dismissed viral claims that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals project was funded through personal loans from friends. It described such assertions as a misrepresentation of how the multibillion dollar project was financed and challenged those spreading the story to provide verifiable evidence. The company stressed that Aliko Dangote does not rely on borrowing from friends to fund his investments. It added that suggestions that the refinery is struggling financially or dependent on emergency personal […]

Watford Sack Head Coach Ed Still After Poor Run
Watford Football Club have parted company with head coach Ed Still after a short spell in charge at Vicarage Road, ending his tenure after less than three months. The 35-year-old Belgian was appointed on 9 February on a two-and-a-half-year contract following the departure of his predecessor Javi Gracia. At the time of his arrival, Watford were 11th in the table and only three points outside the Championship play-off positions. However, results quickly declined. The team won just three of their last 15 league matches under Still, eventually finishing 16th in the table. They ended the season 16 points adrift of the play-off places and only 10 points above the relegation zone. Still’s final match in charge was a heavy 4-0 home defeat to Champions Coventry City. It marked Watford’s fifth consecutive loss, during which they conceded 16 goals and scored […]

If Real Madrid win, Barcelona will still have the opportunity to clinch the championship by avoiding defeat in their upcoming home clash against Real Madrid on May 10. The match in Pamplona was tightly contested for long spells before Barcelona broke the deadlock through a well-worked attacking move. Substitute Marcus Rashford delivered a precise cross into the box, where striker Robert Lewandowski rose to head home the opening […]

Onyedika rejects Brugge deal, pushes for big transfer
Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has rejected a new contract offer from Belgian club Club Brugge as he pushes for a major transfer this summer. Reports in Belgium say the club has been trying for some time to extend his deal, but the Nigerian has turned down every proposal so far. Brugge were unwilling to let Onyedika leave during the January transfer window because of his importance to their title challenge. However, the player is now said to be focused on securing a move at the end of the season, and this has reportedly affected his concentration in recent weeks. Onyedika has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe’s top leagues following his strong performances for both club and country. Premier League side Aston Villa are among the teams monitoring his situation closely, while German Bundesliga clubs Wolfsburg and Eintracht […]
