Allegri rules out Italy job insists on staying at AC Milan

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has ruled out taking the vacant Italy national team job and says he wants to continue his project with the club. Allegri and Napoli boss Antonio Conte had been tipped as leading candidates to replace Gennaro Gattuso, who resigned earlier this month after Italy failed to qualify for a third straight World Cup. But Allegri told reporters on Saturday that frequent job changes are not in his nature. He said his career shows that he prefers stability and long term work. Allegri previously coached Milan between 2010 and 2014 before enjoying a highly successful spell at Juventus from 2014 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2024. The 58 year old explained that he enjoys working in a club that is run as a business and managed with clear planning. He said progress is more […]

Werder Bremen hand Boniface timely boost ahead of derby

Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune says Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface could be involved in this weekend’s high stakes North German derby against Hamburger SV as he steps up his recovery from injury. Boniface has been out since December 2025 after undergoing knee surgery but is now back in individual training and working towards full fitness. Thioune said no player has been ruled out yet and a final decision on Boniface will depend on how he responds in the final training sessions before the game. The coach stressed that Boniface is unlikely to start the match. Any involvement is expected to come from the bench as Bremen carefully manage his return after previously criticising him for not controlling his weight properly during rehabilitation. Werder Bremen are just above the relegation zone and under serious pressure after a poor run of […]

Man City host Arsenal in decisive title showdown

Manchester City and Arsenal face a crucial Premier League showdown on Sunday that could shape the destination of the title. Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium with a six point lead over second placed City as they chase a first league crown since 2004. Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said he is not bothered by criticism of the team’s recent poor form but admitted they must improve for what he called a title defining match. Arsenal have won only one of their last five games in all competitions. They lost the League Cup final to City, were knocked out of the FA Cup by second tier Southampton and suffered a damaging league defeat to Bournemouth. Their progress to the Champions League semi finals also came after a nervous goalless draw that completed a narrow 1 to 0 aggregate win over Sporting […]

Liverpool’s Ekitike set to miss World Cup after injury blow

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is set to miss the 2026 World Cup and the remainder of the season after suffering a severe Achilles tendon rupture during Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The 23-year-old French forward sustained the injury midway through the first half at Anfield when he planted his right foot to accelerate and immediately crumpled to the turf, clutching his lower leg. Reports indicate an expected recovery period of around nine months, ruling him out of France’s World Cup campaign and a significant part of next season. Ekitike, a £69 million summer signing, had to be stretchered off as visibly concerned teammates gathered around him. Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted after the match that the injury “looks really bad” but said a full prognosis would only be possible after further medical assessments. “Hugo looks really bad, but […]

UCL: Lookman’s strike seals Atlético semi-final spot over Barcelona

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman scored the decisive goal that sent Atlético Madrid into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Barcelona. Despite losing 2–1 on the night at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Diego Simeone’s side advanced 3–2 on aggregate thanks to their 2–0 first-leg victory at Camp Nou. Barcelona made a fast start in the second leg, with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring in the fourth minute before Ferran Torres struck soon after to level the tie on aggregate and put pressure on Atlético. However, moments after play resumed following an injury to Fermín López, Atlético hit back on the counter, and Lookman calmly finished a low cross from Marcos Llorente in the 31st minute to restore the Spaniards’ aggregate lead. In the second half, Barcelona piled on the pressure in search of more goals, but Atlético’s defence […]

Refereeing v Atletico ‘a robbery’ – Barca’s Raphinha

Barcelona forward Raphinha has branded the refereeing in their Champions League quarter-final defeat to Atletico Madrid “a robbery.” Barca exited 3–2 on aggregate despite a 2–1 win in Tuesday’s second leg, having lost the first leg 2–0 at home. In both matches a Barcelona defender was sent off after a yellow card was upgraded to red when the referee, on VAR advice, reviewed a potential denial of a goalscoring opportunity on the pitchside monitor. Pau Cubarsi was dismissed by Istvan Kovacs in the first leg, while fellow defender Eric Garcia was sent off by French referee Clement Turpin in the second. Kovacs and video assistant referee Christian Dingert were also criticised by Barcelona after they allowed play to continue when Atletico defender Marc Pubill handled the ball in his own penalty area from what appeared to be a goal-kick situation. Spurs captain Romero out for rest of season with injury

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in his side’s 1–0 defeat at Sunderland. The 27‑year‑old Argentina defender looked visibly upset as he limped off following a collision with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky during Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light. There were immediate fears he could be sidelined long term, ruling him out of Spurs’ final six league games as they battle to avoid relegation. Medical tests have now confirmed those fears, with Romero expected to be out for up to eight weeks after being diagnosed with a high‑grade partial tear of his medial cruciate ligament. His participation in this summer’s World Cup with Argentina is also in serious doubt, with the injury timeline leaving his chances “hanging in the balance.” Romero’s absence is a major blow […]

UEFA reject Barca handball complaint before Atletico return

UEFA has rejected Barcelona’s complaint over a controversial handball incident in their Champions League quarter‑final first leg defeat to Atletico Madrid, just hours before the return leg. Atletico won the first game 2–0 at Camp Nou, but Barcelona were furious that no penalty was awarded when defender Marc Pubill appeared to handle the ball after receiving what looked like a goal kick inside the area. “After the first leg, Barcelona filed a protest relating to a referee decision. On 13 April 2026, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body declared the protest to be inadmissible,” UEFA said in a statement. The Catalan club had described the decision not to give a spot kick as a “major error” that affected the outcome of the match and criticised the fact that Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs was not asked by VAR to review […]
