Taskmaster Simeone demands more defensive grit from Lookman

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has challenged Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman to add more defensive grit and all round contribution to his game despite his explosive start at the club. Lookman has hit the ground running in Spain with four goals and two assists in his first few matches across competitions, matching Luis Suarez’s record for the best attacking start under Simeone. Simeone, known for his demanding standards, said Lookman currently gives the team “more goals than overall play” and must now improve his build up involvement and defensive discipline. He stressed that Atletico’s philosophy requires every attacker to press, track back and fully adapt to the team’s intense, compact style without the ball. The Argentine coach added that Lookman is eager to learn and has told him he wants to become a better all round footballer, not just a […]

He said Mac Allister has been getting back to the high level he displayed for Liverpool last season, after an early part of the campaign marked by ups and downs in both his and the team’s form. Europe Watch: Ndidi scores on return, Iwobi shines as Galatasaray miss Osimhen’s spark

Ndidi, returning to the starting XI after weeks on the sidelines, got on the scoresheet for his club and showed his usual energy and defensive discipline in midfield, a timely boost ahead of Nigeria’s next international window. Iwobi continued his fine form by creating chances, working tirelessly off the ball and underlining why he remains one of the Super Eagles’ most consistent Europe based players. Over in Turkey, Galatasaray’s attack again lacked cutting edge without Osimhen leading the line, with the team failing to turn possession into goals. The Nigerian forward, who recently returned to training after a muscle injury, is still working his way back to full fitness and his absence has been felt in Gala’s recent league games. Despite the mixed fortunes at club level, the overall form of key Nigerians like Ndidi, Iwobi and Osimhen continues to […]
