Akpata unveils bold four pillar plan to transform Nigerian cricket

Nigeria Cricket Federation president Dr Uyi Akpata says the federation is implementing a long term plan built on grassroots development, better facilities, high performance and strong partnerships to transform Nigerian cricket. He explained that after the current board was re elected in October 2025, more than 30 stakeholders, including 13 board members, met in Lagos for a two day strategy retreat to redefine what cricket should mean for Nigeria. On grassroots development, he recalled that when he assumed office, the NCF had only about seven development officers nationwide, but now employs around 45 field officers, one in each state, who are assessed every three months on progress in schools and communities. How internal power tussle and filing errors cost Super Eagles 2026 World Cup ticket

Nigeria’s failure to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been linked to serious administrative errors and turf battles between the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission. Fresh findings show that the protest Nigeria filed over Democratic Republic of Congo’s alleged use of ineligible players was submitted nearly two weeks late and without the mandatory 1,000 Swiss Francs fee required by FIFA. Sources said the error ridden protest letter was not drafted by the NFF’s legal chief, Barrister Okey Obi, who has experience with FIFA procedures, but was instead prepared by lawyers linked to the National Sports Commission. According to insiders, the NSC stepped in under the guise of assisting the NFF but effectively bypassed the federation’s internal legal department and took over the drafting of the petition. Those familiar with the case said the NSC lawyers were […]

Senegalese football fans have condemned the decision to strip their country of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco, calling the move a disgrace for Africa . Many supporters in Dakar said they were shocked to wake up to the news that the Confederation of African Football had overturned Senegal’s victory in the final played in Rabat on January 18 . Morocco awarded AFCON 2025 after CAF ruling

Morocco have officially been crowned champions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the initial result of the final against Senegal. The match, played on 18 January, originally ended in a 1–0 victory for Senegal. However, it was marked by controversy when Senegalese players temporarily refused to continue play after a stoppage-time penalty was awarded to Morocco while the score was still level. Following a formal appeal by the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), CAF’s appeal board reviewed the incident and ruled that Senegal’s actions constituted a breach of tournament regulations. As a result, Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the match, which […]
