Article arrow_drop_down

Police authorities in Abuja have opened an investigation into the disappearance of a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and lawyer, Miss Eunice Ameh, following reports that suspected kidnappers are demanding ₦20m ransom from her family. Ameh was declared missing after she failed to return home from work in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to family sources, the young lawyer closed from duty at about 5:40 p.m. at Blades and Butchers Ltd., a livestock and value added products company on Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama, where she worked as a Sales Manager while completing her NYSC. She was reportedly heading towards Life Camp, where she resides in a corps members’ lodge, when her phones suddenly became unreachable and all attempts to contact her failed.

Her disappearance was first reported to the Maitama Police Division and the NYSC authorities, after friends and colleagues raised alarm that she had neither arrived home nor been seen since leaving the office. Initial updates indicated that no contact had been made by possible abductors, heightening anxiety among relatives and friends.

However, fresh information later emerged that suspected kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded ₦20m for her release. The development has deepened fears over her safety and added pressure on security agencies to step up efforts to locate and rescue her.

Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the case. She said operatives are working to trace Ameh’s whereabouts, verify the ransom claim and unravel the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over rising cases of kidnapping and ransom related crimes within Abuja and its environs, particularly targeting commuters and young professionals. The Ameh family has appealed to security agencies and members of the public for assistance, expressing hope that she will be safely rescued and reunited with her loved ones.

Dangote Refinery denies petrol export and re-import claims

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied claims that its petrol is being exported to Togo and then brought back into Nigeria. The company said the allegation is false and does not reflect its business operations. It explained that the claims are not supported by trade records, commercial logic, or its normal supply process. According to the refinery, its sales contracts do not allow the resale or re-importation of its products into Nigeria. The company said this rule is part of its standard compliance system. Dangote Refinery also said the alleged trade route would not make economic sense. It noted that shipping fuel from Nigeria to Lomé and back into Nigeria would add extra logistics costs that would make such a plan unprofitable. The company said no rational producer would spend additional money on shipping, storage, financing and handling only for the […]

The committee is expected to examine the proposal and report back to the Senate before any final decision is made. They believe giving states more control over policing could improve response time and intelligence gathering. However, the proposal is still subject to more legislative steps. For the bill […]
