The Nigeria Police Council has unanimously approved the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector General of Police.
The council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu and made up of the 36 state governors, the chairman of the Police Service Commission and the IGP, reached the decision at a brief meeting in the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
Disu was appointed acting IGP on February 25, 2026, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, and has now been confirmed as the 23rd police chief since Nigeria’s independence.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the confirmation complies with the Police Act 2020 and that there is no further need for Senate screening.
Disu, 59, previously served as Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, and has a background in leading anti robbery and anti kidnapping operations in several states.
He is expected to be formally sworn in by President Tinubu and to serve a four year tenure unless removed or he resigns before the end of his term.

Lower patience contributes to strain in modern marriages – BBNaija Tochi
Big Brother Naija star Tochi has said that lower levels of patience, tolerance and endurance among today’s couples are a major reason many modern marriages are under intense strain. Sharing his views on Instagram, he argued that people of this generation “don’t have the same level of tolerance, patience and endurance our mothers and fathers had.” According to him, many young spouses are now “too woke”, quick to walk away from relationships rather than work through challenges and sacrifices that previous generations accepted as part of marriage. He noted that this mindset, combined with social media pressure and changing values, has made it harder for couples to stay committed when problems arise. Tochi suggested that modern marriages should even operate more like formal contracts, where partners understand clearly the weight of the vows they are taking. In his view, if […]

Arbeloa told me I’ve been demoted to fourth striker – Mbappé
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has claimed that head coach Álvaro Arbeloa told him he is now only the fourth-choice striker at the club. The France captain made the remark after starting on the bench in Los Blancos’ 2–0 La Liga win over Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu. Mbappé, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, insisted he was fully fit and ready to start the match. “I’m 100% fine. I didn’t play because, for the coach, I’ve been the fourth-choice striker behind (Franco) Mastantuono, Vini and Gonzalo,” he told reporters in the mixed zone. The 27-year-old explained that Arbeloa opted to start Vinícius Júnior and youngster Gonzalo García in attack, with teenage sensation Mastantuono also ahead of him in the pecking order. “I was ready to start, but Arbeloa informed me that I am now the fourth striker. Man City battle fatigue ahead of FA Cup final clash with troubled Chelsea
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are battling mounting fatigue as they prepare to face a troubled Chelsea side in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. City are chasing a domestic cup double while still locked in a tight Premier League title race with Arsenal, leaving the squad stretched by a relentless schedule. Guardiola’s men were in league action as recently as Wednesday, when they beat Crystal Palace 3–0 to close the gap on Arsenal to two points with two games remaining. In contrast, Chelsea have had a full week to rest and train at Cobham, a gap the City boss believes could hand the London club a physical edge at Wembley. “After the FA Cup, we have Bournemouth, we play every three days. Chelsea have a week at home training, preparing the final,” Guardiola said. “We have to travel to […]

Court orders final forfeiture of $13m linked to Oceangate Engineering
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 13 million dollars linked to Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd, a company associated with businesswoman Aisha Achimugu. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the money to be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. In his ruling, Justice Nwite held that neither Oceangate Engineering nor Achimugu was able to prove that the 13 million dollars was legitimately earned. He said there was no credible evidence before the court to support their claim that the funds came from gifts and earnings from oil and gas contracts. The judge rejected arguments by Oceangate’s lawyer, Darlington Ozurumba, who had insisted that the money was lawfully acquired. Ozurumba had argued that the funds were derived from personal gifts to Achimugu and proceeds of genuine […]
