Article arrow_drop_down

Obi’s Clean Record Challenge

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has boldly defended his political integrity, stating:

✔ Never engaged in ballot snatching or rigging
✔ No history of political thuggery or violence
✔ Challenges critics: “Investigate me – you’ll find no stains”

“Ask those who’ve contested against me – none were denied rights or framed. I believe in fair competition, not manufactured victories.”
— Peter Obi via X

⏳ The One-Term Presidency Vision

Obi reaffirmed his controversial stance that four years is enough for transformative leadership:

✅ Anti-Corruption: “We can confront graft head-on in 48 months”
✅ Resource Reallocation: “Trillions wasted on jets could educate millions”
✅ Electoral Reform: “Conduct free, fair polls within one term”

“The agitation over my one-term pledge shows we doubt honest leadership’s power.”

🆚 Contrasting Political Styles

Obi distanced himself from what he called “desperate politics”:

🚫 No aggressive rhetoric
🚫 No policy flip-flopping
🚫 No unrealistic promises

“Power isn’t my ambition – Nigeria’s progress is. If service means one term, so be it.”

💬 Public Reactions

🟢 “Finally a Nigerian politician with term limits!”
🔴 “Four years too short to fix decades of damage”
🔵 “Actions speak louder – prove it in governance”

He said that since 2009, more than 50,000 Christians have been killed and over 20,000 churches, schools and other religious buildings destroyed. “Nigerian officials have been, unfortunately, complicit in facilitating these atrocities,” he told the hearing, linking part of the violence to the operation of Sharia law in some northern states and criticising what he called the slow response of Nigerian authorities to insecurity. Cruz recalled earlier meetings with Nigerian defence and security officials, saying they had promised to tackle the violence but […]
