Kwara Monarch Escapes as Vigilantes Battle Bandits

The abducted monarch of Bayagan community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, has escaped from armed bandits along with six other captives. Community sources said they fled on Sunday evening after local vigilantes launched a fierce offensive on the kidnappers’ camp deep inside the forest. The vigilante team reportedly tracked the gang to the Eku Idaji area, near Igbaja, and engaged them in heavy gunfire. Although the monarch and the other escapees had not yet returned to Bayagan at the time of the report, they contacted community members to confirm they were safe and out of the kidnappers’ control. The bandits had earlier demanded N150 million for the monarch’s release and called the community early on Sunday to reinforce their ransom demand. During that call, they allowed Alhaji Salami to speak, and he begged his […]

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and several major depot operators have reduced the average gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit to N840 per litre, from N843 per litre. The adjustment follows a drop in global crude prices, with Brent crude trading at about 62 dollars per barrel over the weekend, easing refining and supply costs. Market data show that Dangote Refinery, AIPEC and NIPCO have all pegged their depot selling price at N840 per litre. Some others are slightly higher, with Rainoil at N844, Sigmund and Master Energy at N858 and Northwest at N850 per litre. Meanwhile, eight OPEC plus countries, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman, met virtually on 30 November 2025 to review market conditions and the outlook for early 2026.  Bandits Rampage Across Kogi, Kano, Sokoto, Kwara

Bandits have launched fresh attacks across four Nigerian states, abducting worshippers, a monarch, a bride and her bridal party, and other residents, while killing at least one woman and demanding huge ransoms. The coordinated wave of violence in Kogi, Kano, Sokoto and Kwara has renewed public anger over worsening insecurity and perceived gaps in government response. In Kogi State, gunmen stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, during a service, firing shots and forcing worshippers to flee in panic. The pastor, known as Orlando, his wife and several congregants were taken away, though the exact number of abducted persons remains unclear. Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said state authorities and security agencies had intensified a manhunt for the attackers and promised that all abducted worshippers would be rescued alive. NAF airstrikes crush terror cells in Katsina, foil ISWAP attack in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says its fighter jets have destroyed key terror cells in Katsina State and helped to repel a coordinated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)/Boko Haram attack in Borno. NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the operations were carried out through intelligence‑driven precision strikes under Operation Fansan Yamma and Operation Hadin Kai. According to him, two separate strikes were launched on November 27 in Katsina under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma. The first, around 6:30 a.m., targeted the fortified base of a notorious terrorist kingpin linked to serial kidnappings, violent attacks and livestock rustling across Kankara, Faskari and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, with real‑time ISR guiding precision munitions that destroyed the camp and hit fleeing fighters. A second strike around 5:55 p.m. hit another major terrorist enclave in Danfako, Faskari LGA, taking out logistics […]

NECO accredits Burkina Faso schools for SSCE, BECE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited selected schools in Burkina Faso to host its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the decision followed a detailed assessment of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, ICT facilities, workshops, exam halls, sports grounds, security and teacher availability in the West African country. Sani said the schools were granted full accreditation after the evaluation, stressing that the move reflects NECO’s drive to provide credible assessment services beyond Nigeria’s borders. The development builds on NECO’s growing foreign footprint, which already includes centres in Togo, Benin Republic, Niger, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire and Saudi Arabia, as well as a newly opened centre in London. Nigeria’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, M.D. Galadima, hailed the accreditation as a major relief for Nigerian families who […]

Troops quell communal violence, neutralise four militias in Taraba

Nigerian security forces have put down a fresh outbreak of communal violence in Taraba State, neutralising four armed militias in a decisive operation. The troops moved in after clashes erupted between rival groups in one of the state’s flashpoint communities, preventing what officials say could have been a far more devastating escalation. According to security sources, the operation combined ground troops with intelligence-led raids on suspected militia hideouts. Weapons were recovered and several suspects were arrested as soldiers fanned out across the area to stop reprisals and reopen key roads. The latest incident comes against the backdrop of recurring communal crises in Taraba, often tied to disputes over land, grazing routes and traditional authority. The army’s 6 Brigade and other security agencies have recently intensified patrols and peace efforts in Bali, Gassol and other tension-prone local government areas. Community leaders […]

VIPs rush NSCDC, private guards as police escorts are withdrawn

There has been a surge in demand for the services of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service and private security firms after President Bola Tinubu ordered the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs. The directive, aimed at boosting police presence in communities, has already seen Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun recall more than 11,500 escort officers nationwide. Findings across states show many affected politicians and high‑profile figures are now making frantic moves to secure alternative armed protection. Senior NSCDC officers in Abuja and Enugu confirmed they have been inundated with calls and formal applications from VIPs requesting personnel for home and personal security, even as the corps struggles with limited manpower and multiple national assignments. Private security companies are also reporting a spike in enquiries but say they lack enough trained guards to meet sudden demand. ASUU demands salary review, says lecturers’ welfare is a fundamental right

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Enugu State University of Science and Technology branch, has called for an urgent review of staff salaries, declaring that lecturers’ welfare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. The union said academics at the institution deserve a pay structure aligned with national benchmarks and the 25–35 per cent wage awards already implemented in other universities. ASUU argued that university teachers have endured the same salary scale for about 16 years despite repeated currency devaluations and soaring inflation. It maintained that the current pay package cannot sustain lecturers, stop brain drain or motivate quality teaching and research in Nigerian campuses. The union insisted that welfare, including fair remuneration, is a core component of workers’ fundamental rights and central to the survival of public universities. It rejected piecemeal wage awards it described as inadequate and called […]
