NDLEA arrests Lagos female drug kingpin

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a wanted female drug kingpin in Lagos after discovering 23.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her children’s room. The suspect was picked up during a raid on her residence following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by NDLEA operatives. According to the agency, the cocaine was carefully concealed in bags and containers placed among children’s belongings to avoid detection. NDLEA officials said the tactic was part of a wider effort by the suspect to use her family home as cover for large scale drug trafficking activities. The agency described the woman as a key figure in a trafficking network responsible for moving cocaine within Lagos and to other parts of the country. She had reportedly been on NDLEA’s watch list for some time before being tracked to the Lagos address where she […]

Security tops Tinubu’s N58.18trn 2026 budget priorities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made security the single biggest priority in the proposed N58.18 trillion 2026 federal budget, earmarking N5.41 trillion for defence and internal security. The allocation is the largest for any sector and marks the third straight year that security has taken the top share of national spending under his administration. Presenting the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity” to a joint session of the National Assembly, Tinubu said security remains the foundation of economic growth, investment and social stability. He argued that without peace, efforts to expand jobs, infrastructure, education and health will not succeed. Under the proposal, defence and security will receive N5.41 trillion, ahead of infrastructure (N3.56 trillion), education (N3.52 trillion) and health (N2.48 trillion). The funds are expected to modernise the armed forces, strengthen intelligence driven policing, tighten border security and […]

Guards Brigade vows tougher clampdown on bandits in 2026

The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, says bandits and other criminal elements operating in and around the Federal Capital Territory will face even tougher military pressure in 2026. He warned that the area will not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminals. Onasanya spoke in Abuja at the summit of Aso Rock during the brigade’s annual ascent of the rock, an exercise that marks the end of its training year and tests troops’ fitness, endurance and cohesion. He said 2025 had been particularly demanding, with the brigade taking on more security tasks beyond its core duty of protecting the president. Despite the pressure, he said the formation kept Abuja and its environs largely safe through sustained operations and close collaboration with other security agencies. He listed the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence, Department of State […]

Otti says visit to Nnamdi Kanu is about peace not politics

Abia State Governor Alex Otti says his recent visit to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre was driven purely by a search for dialogue and peace, not by any future political ambition. He spoke while receiving the Abia Diaspora Commission and Abia Global Medical Mission team in Umuahia, reacting to a viral video accusing him of using the visit to build higher political plans. Otti said differing opinions are normal in a democracy but insisted that disagreement does not automatically make critics right. He stressed that, as Kanu is from Abia and specifically from Umuahia North Local Government Area, visiting him was the responsible thing for a governor from his home state to do. The governor restated that he has no intention of contesting any election after completing his tenure. He said that once he finishes […]

Questions trail NAF aircraft’s onward flight to Portugal

Fresh questions have emerged over the onward journey of the Nigerian Air Force C 130 aircraft that made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso while heading to Portugal for maintenance. Although officials earlier said the plane and its 11 man crew had been cleared to continue their mission, there is still no clear public confirmation on when it actually departed Bobo Dioulasso for Europe. The aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December when the crew detected a technical fault after takeoff from Lagos and carried out a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso, in line with international aviation safety procedures. Burkina Faso authorities subsequently held the plane and personnel, claiming an airspace violation, which triggered a diplomatic row and heightened regional tensions. Following high level talks in Ouagadougou led by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, the […]
