A tripartite agreement between the Federal Government, Cameroon, Borno State and the UNHCR for the voluntary return of Nigerian refugees from Cameroon has begun yielding results, with displaced citizens now going back home. The deal covers Nigerians who fled Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks and have been living for years in camps such as Minawao in Cameroon. Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume commended President Bola Tinubu and the Borno State Government for fully activating the Yaoundé agreement signed in 2017. He said the accord is enabling the safe repatriation, resettlement and relocation of refugees back to communities like Gwoza Local Government Area. Ndume also praised the Federal Government for initiating the resettlement process and lauded Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration for spearheading reintegration efforts after more than a decade of displacement. He specifically welcomed the resettlement of people from Wala village […]

Troops arrest 65‑year‑old woman over drugs for Boko Haram

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 65‑year‑old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, for allegedly supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorists in parts of Borno State. She was picked up in Askira Uba Local Government Area during Operation Desert Sanity V. Military spokesman Lt Col Sani Uba said Hauwa is suspected to be a key conduit, distributing cannabis to Boko Haram elements operating around Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya, as well as several nearby communities. Preliminary investigations indicate she sourced the drugs from Sardauna (Sarti Baruwa) LGA in Taraba State and moved them along established supply routes. During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing about 30kg, described as a significant haul meant to sustain illicit activities. The suspect is in custody undergoing further interrogation, while follow‑up operations are underway to uncover and […]

2027: Musawa warns APC against dropping Northern Muslim running mate

Minister of Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against altering President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ticket in a way that removes a Northern Muslim running mate. She said such a move could cost the ruling party vital support across the core North. Speaking on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On Show, Musawa addressed debates over reviewing the Muslim–Muslim ticket used in 2023. She argued that dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima or replacing him with a non‑Northern Muslim would create serious political complications, given regional sensitivities. “If there is no Hausa, Fulani or Kanuri Muslim on that ticket, it creates a hurdle. That is the reality of the way people think,” she said, stressing that electoral politics in the North is shaped by long‑standing social and political structures. She listed Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, […]

Gov Yusuf quit Kwankwasiya, not NNPP – party founder

Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, says Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has resigned only from the Kwankwasiya Movement and not from the NNPP itself. He reacted after media reports that Yusuf had dumped the party along with several lawmakers and council chairmen in Kano. Aniebonam argued that the governor’s resignation letter was not addressed to the authentic NNPP National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr Agbo Major, nor to any recognised party officer. Instead, it was written to a Diso‑Chiranchi Ward chairman who, he said, belongs to the Kwankwasiya Movement and is not recognised by the party’s leadership. He stressed that the NNPP is a registered political party, while Kwankwasiya is merely a former pressure group whose memorandum of association with the NNPP has been terminated. According to him, court judgments from an Abia State […]
