Dangote Refinery absorbs 20% of crude cost surge to stabilise fuel prices

Dangote Petroleum Refinery says it is currently absorbing about 20 percent of the recent crude oil cost escalation in order to reduce the impact of rising global prices on Nigerian fuel consumers. The company explained that the conflict in the Middle East and disruptions to global refining capacity have driven Brent crude prices up by roughly 26 percent, while Nigerian crude now trades at a premium of 3 to 6 dollars above the benchmark, with freight adding about 3.50 dollars per barrel. In response, the refinery implemented a 100 naira per litre increase in its ex depot price of petrol, representing about a 12 percent adjustment, but stressed that this is lower than the full rise in crude and logistics costs because it has chosen to absorb part of the escalation. Dangote Refinery said it receives around five cargoes of […]

OPL 245 deal to boost Nigeria’s oil output by 150,000 barrels daily

The Federal Government says resolving the long running dispute over Oil Prospecting Licence 245 will unlock new deepwater investment and raise Nigeria’s oil production by about 150,000 barrels per day when fully developed. The agreement, overseen by President Bola Tinubu and signed in Abuja, brings to an end more than 15 years of legal and commercial battles involving ENI, Nigerian Agip Exploration and other parties over ownership and terms of the block. Under the new structure, the controversial OPL 245 oilfield has been split into four separate assets to be operated by ENI and Shell, clearing a major obstacle that had stalled one of Nigeria’s largest untapped deepwater reserves. Officials say the settlement restores clarity and stability to the block, removes a prominent legacy risk in the upstream sector and sends a signal to investors that Nigeria is serious about […]

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged governors’ wives to use the Renewed Hope Initiative to deliver more practical projects that directly touch people at the grassroots. Nigeria is poor because we celebrate thieves – Obi

Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi says Nigeria remains poor because the country celebrates corrupt people instead of holding them accountable. He argued that Nigeria is not truly a poor nation but has been made poor by years of bad leadership and a culture that rewards those who steal public funds. Obi said that in many cases, people who have looted public resources are honoured with chieftaincy titles, front row seats at public events and loud celebrations, instead of being questioned about the source of their wealth. He compared Nigeria with other countries where citizens resist bad governance, stressing that Nigerians often sing, dance and praise leaders who have failed them, even when millions are living in hardship. According to him, the main problem is that “thieves” are allowed to manage national resources, and this has led to widespread poverty, […]
