Nigeria’s Tourism Sector Holds Huge Economic Potential – Ononogbu

The newly appointed Chairman of the National Park Service Board, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, has described Nigeria’s tourism industry as a key driver of economic growth, stressing that its potential is vast and largely untapped. Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, Abia State, Ononogbu said Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural attractions, including nine officially recognised national parks and over 15 others yet to be fully developed, which can position the country as a global tourism destination. He noted that his first step as chairman would be to review the existing parks to identify immediate priorities, while long-term projects would be factored into future budgets. “The ones that can be addressed immediately, we will take them head-on. Those that require budgetary allocations will be planned for in the next cycle,” he explained. Ononogbu also stressed the need for greater public awareness about […]

TRCN, GMIND AI to Launch Lesson Platform for 1.5 Million Licensed Teachers

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has signed a partnership with GMIND AI to introduce an artificial intelligence-powered lesson planning platform designed for the country’s 1.5 million licensed teachers. The platform, set to launch on October 6, will provide teachers with two categories of resources: AI-generated lesson plans with simulations for digitally skilled teachers. Ready-to-use lesson plans for teachers with limited ICT knowledge. TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, who spoke during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing, said the innovation would transform lesson preparation and raise teaching standards nationwide. She explained that the platform would integrate Nigerian culture, history, and local realities into lessons, ensuring learners relate better to the content. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” Soyombo said. Before the official […]

Nollywood is mourning the loss of veteran actor Olusegun Akinremi, fondly known as Chief Kanran, who passed away in Lagos on Friday after a brief illness, just days before his 70th birthday. In a moving tribute, actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo revealed that Kanran’s last appearance on screen was in his soon-to-be-released film, Seven Doors. He described the coincidence as both painful and symbolic. “He played in Seven Doors, and now it feels like life mirrored art,” Adebayo wrote. “The title speaks of thresholds and transitions, and sadly, it has become a metaphor for his own journey. None of us thought it would be his last performance.” Colleagues recalled that despite battling health challenges, Chief Kanran remained devoted to his craft, arriving on set with energy and passion. “He gave everything to that role, almost as if he knew it […]

Dangote Refinery to Roll Out 4,000 CNG Trucks for Nationwide Fuel Supply

The Dangote Refinery is preparing to begin nationwide fuel distribution using 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has confirmed. Speaking with reporters on Saturday, IPMAN’s National President, Abubakar Maigandi, said the refinery is currently numbering the trucks and may commence distribution within a week. “The management told me they are numbering the trucks now. Once that is completed, distribution will begin. Nigerians should not panic about the short delay,” Maigandi said. He explained that the refinery’s direct-to-market supply plan would cut out middlemen, lower transportation costs, and eventually reduce fuel prices for consumers. The refinery had earlier scheduled August 15, 2025, as the take-off date for direct supply of petroleum products to end-users, telecom companies, and other bulk customers, but the rollout was delayed. Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has already invested […]
