Nigeria and Tunisia will face off tomorrow, December 27, in a high stakes Group C match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Fez, Morocco. Both teams won their opening games and are chasing early control of the group.
The Super Eagles defeated Tanzania 2–1 on December 23, with goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman. The result confirmed Nigeria’s status as one of the tournament favourites and left them second in Group C on goal difference.
Tunisia sit top of the group after a 3–1 victory over Uganda on the same day. The Eagles of Carthage looked sharp in attack and extended a run of strong recent performances, sending a clear warning to their rivals.
Nigeria and Tunisia share a long history at the Africa Cup of Nations and beyond. In 17 meetings overall, Nigeria have eight wins, Tunisia five, with four matches ending in draws.
Their AFCON encounters have produced several memorable moments. Nigeria beat Tunisia at the 2000 tournament, edged them on penalties in the 2006 quarter final and won 1–0 in the third place match at AFCON 2019 in Egypt.
Tunisia’s latest success in the rivalry came in January 2022, when they stunned Nigeria 1–0 in the Round of 16. That defeat still hurts many Super Eagles fans and adds extra motivation for tomorrow’s clash.
