Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested popular Lagos socialite Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, better known as Pretty Mike, along with over 100 other suspects, during a midnight raid on Proxy Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrests on Sunday, stating that the raid followed credible intelligence about a planned drug party at the venue, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA operatives infiltrated the party around 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, and disrupted it at 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, in line with the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“Cartons of illicit substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from suspects at the party and from the club’s storage area,” he said.
Babafemi noted that all suspects, including Pretty Mike — identified as the club’s owner — were taken into custody for screening.
In a separate development, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) uncovered 70 parcels of cocaine concealed in containers of cocoa butter formula body cream destined for London. Three suspects, including a cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, were arrested after a two-week investigation that led to the apprehension of Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, a travel agency CEO.
Similarly, NDLEA officers in Enugu foiled an attempt by Lemena Mark, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in herbal tea packs to the Philippines.
The agency also made major drug busts across the country, recovering thousands of tramadol pills, skunk, and skuchies in states including Kwara, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ondo, Kaduna, and Lagos.
Notably, a 75-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were arrested in Abia State with large quantities of cannabis, while NDLEA operatives in Zamfara intercepted a suspect transporting an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition to bandits.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the agency’s personnel nationwide for their sustained efforts under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, urging them to maintain a balanced approach to drug control and public education.
