The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Lagos-based musician, Godspower George Osahenrumwen, popularly known as Steady Boy, for allegedly attempting to receive a consignment of illicit drugs smuggled from the United States on behalf of his manager.
In a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency also confirmed the discovery of an illicit drug laboratory in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State, where synthetic cannabis (known locally as “Colorado” or “Colos”) was being produced.
According to Babafemi, Steady Boy, aged 20, was arrested at Bougain Villa, Primewater Gardens 2, Freedom Way, Lekki, after showing up to collect 140 bags of “Loud” (a potent strain of cannabis) with a total weight of 77.20 kilograms. The drugs were concealed in three cartons of bathtubs and had been intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, aboard a DHL flight from the United States.
“The suspect appeared as the consignee to take delivery on behalf of a syndicate that includes his manager, Zion Osazee Omigie (alias Zee Money), who is currently at large,” the statement read.
Babafemi said the arrest came after months of intelligence gathering, which also led operatives to a clandestine drug laboratory where large-scale production of Colorado was taking place.
Recovered from the lab were:
- 16.2kg of freshly cooked Colos,
- 1.7kg of ADB-CHMNACA Cannabinol,
- 4.5kg of Potassium Carbonate, and
- 91 litres of Dibromobutane.
In another operation in Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided the hideout of a suspected drug dealer, Afeez Salisu (alias Malu), in Mushin, seizing 16.4kg of Ghana Loud and designer Colorado variants.
The agency also carried out inter-state operations across Nigeria, including:
- Kaduna: Interception of 84,710 tramadol capsules on the Abuja–Jos highway and arrest of recipients in Bauchi.
- Ogun: Arrest of three suspects along Abiola Way, Abeokuta, with 1,779kg of skunk.
- Ondo: Recovery of 2,829kg of skunk linked to a female suspect in Ogbese.
- Edo: Seizure of 1,455kg of skunk from two Toyota Sienna buses in Uhunmwode LGA.
- Kwara: Recovery of 532,600 pills of tramadol and Exol-5 from suspects in Ilorin.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the operatives for their “resilience and professionalism,” reiterating the agency’s commitment to dismantling all identified drug networks nationwide.
“The NDLEA will continue to target and destroy every drug syndicate operating in any part of Nigeria,” Marwa stated.
Recent NDLEA data shows that the agency has arrested over 45,000 suspects and secured 9,263 convictions within the past 30 months, with more than 8.5 million kilograms of illicit drugs seized across the country.
