Ukrainian Soldier Survives 225 Days at Front

A Ukrainian infantry soldier known by the call sign “Kenya” has returned from one of the harshest experiences of the war after spending 225 days trapped inside a front-line foxhole near the eastern city of Kostyantynivka. Weak from months of isolation and constant danger, he could barely walk when he finally made it back to his brigade. According to Ukrainian troops, rotating soldiers on the front line has become increasingly difficult because of the growing threat posed by drones. Several attempts were reportedly made to replace Kenya, but commanders could not safely reach his position. The soldier spent two days travelling nearly 11 kilometres through dangerous territory, avoiding mines and hiding from surveillance drones as he tried to escape the heavily contested area. Kostyantynivka remains one of the most critical battlegrounds in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian forces say Russian troops have […]

Trump Increases Pressure on Iran

Talks aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran remain deadlocked as President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning to Tehran. The US leader said on Sunday that “the clock is ticking,” urging Iranian authorities to move quickly toward an agreement or face serious consequences. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump warned that Iran needed to act “fast” to avoid further escalation. His statement comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue to stall despite the ceasefire announced in April. According to Israeli media reports, Trump also held discussions on Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the situation in the region and the future of the ongoing diplomatic efforts. Iranian media outlets close to the government claim the United States has failed to offer meaningful concessions in response to Tehran’s latest […]

China denounces Taiwan foreign minister’s Switzerland visit amid WHO meeting

China has denounced a planned visit to Switzerland by Taiwan’s foreign minister, saying the trip, timed to coincide with the World Health Organization’s annual assembly in Geneva, violates the One China principle. Beijing has already blocked Taiwan from participating in the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) as an observer, but Taipei has vowed to send a delegation for meetings outside the official gathering. A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said Taiwan’s outreach in Switzerland amounts to “separatist” activity and accused the island’s government of using the global health forum to push for “independence under the pretext of health cooperation.” The spokesperson reiterated that the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China and that Taiwan is an “inalienable” part of its territory. China’s opposition comes after it formally informed the WHO that it would […]

Trump says Xi agrees Iran must open strait, China says war shouldn’t have started

U.S. President Donald Trump says Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but there is still no clear sign that Beijing will directly pressure Tehran to do so. Trump spoke while flying back from Beijing after two days of talks with Xi, where the crisis over Iran and global oil supplies dominated discussions. Iran has effectively shut the vital waterway, which previously carried about one‑fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas, following joint U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28. The disruption has triggered the biggest oil supply shock in history and sent energy prices soaring, piling pressure on economies already struggling with slow growth. Trump said both leaders shared the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and of restoring safe passage through the strait. He also revealed […]

Ebola: WHO declares global health emergency as death toll hits 81 in DRC, Uganda

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern, after a sharp rise in deaths and infections. The epidemic, caused by the rarer Bundibugyo strain of the virus, has so far killed at least 81 people in both countries and triggered a global health alert. According to WHO and Africa CDC figures, as of 16–17 May 2026 the DRC’s Ituri Province has reported eight laboratory-confirmed cases, 246 suspected cases and about 80 suspected deaths across health zones including Bunia, Rwampara and Mongbwalu. Uganda has confirmed two cases — including one death — in Kampala among travellers from Congo within 24 hours of each other. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the emergency declaration after consulting authorities in Kinshasa and Kampala and convening […]

The collective wealth of Beckham and his wife Victoria has surged past the billion-pound mark, reaching an estimated £1.185bn this year. The couple’s fortune has more than doubled from the £500m figure reported on the 2025 list, driven by fresh commercial deals, growing brand value and the rapid appreciation of Beckham’s stake in Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. Inter Miami, boosted by the arrival of Lionel Messi and associated commercial spin-offs, is now valued at around $1.45bn, making it MLS’s most valuable club. US Secretary of State Rubio denies fashion inspiration from Maduro

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed claims that he took fashion inspiration from deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro after a photo of him in a grey Nike tracksuit went viral online. Rubio was photographed aboard Air Force One in the outfit while travelling with President Donald Trump to China for high-level talks. Social media users quickly noticed that the tracksuit looked similar to the Nike Tech Fleece worn by Maduro when he was captured by US forces and pictured handcuffed inside a helicopter in January. The resemblance sparked a wave of memes and comments suggesting the top US diplomat was trolling or mocking the ousted Venezuelan strongman. Responding to reporters’ questions in Beijing, Rubio laughed off the comparison and insisted there was no hidden message behind his choice of clothing. “There’s no context. It’s a nice suit,” he […]

India Faces Pressure From Iran War

As the conflict involving Iran enters its third month with no clear resolution in sight, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce spending and conserve resources amid growing economic pressure linked to rising global energy costs. Speaking during a public event in Hyderabad, Modi encouraged Indians to work from home when possible, limit unnecessary foreign travel, reduce fuel consumption and avoid excessive purchases of gold. The appeal has drawn comparisons to the Covid-19 period, when the government relied on nationwide public participation to manage economic and social challenges. This time, the government’s focus is on protecting India’s foreign exchange reserves and limiting pressure on the national economy as the war in the Middle East disrupts global energy markets. India remains heavily dependent on imported energy, purchasing nearly 90% of its crude oil and about half of its […]
