Canada Rejects 1,596 Nigerian Asylum Applications in 2025

Canada has denied 1,596 asylum claims filed by Nigerians between January and August 2025, according to fresh figures from the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). The data, updated to August 21, show that Nigerians filed 3,548 claims so far this year, of which 2,292 were approved, putting the acceptance rate at about 65 per cent. This marks an improvement compared to previous years when cumulative rejections exceeded 13,000 cases.
