Among those present were high-profile political figures, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who was previously the victim of a serious shooting attack during a congressional baseball practice in 2017, as well as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who comes from a family long affected by political assassinations. Journalist attendees also included individuals who had covered earlier attacks involving former President Donald Trump, reinforcing the sense of déjà vu in the room.
This latest scare marks the third known incident in which Donald Trump has been directly targeted, following earlier attempts during and after the 2024 election period. The repeated nature of such events has intensified concerns about rising political violence in the United States.
In the aftermath, Trump publicly called for unity and restraint in political rhetoric. However, he later shifted back to blaming political opponents, arguing that the broader political climate contributed to the attack.
The incident has quickly reignited debate over presidential security and event safety. The Trump administration is now considering stronger protective infrastructure at the White House, including plans for a fortified ballroom intended to host large official gatherings in a more controlled environment.
Security officials are also reviewing protocols, especially for major upcoming national events and public appearances, as concerns grow about how such breaches can be prevented in the future.
