Burkina Faso frees detained Nigerian aircraft and 11 troops

The Federal Government has confirmed the release of the Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft and 11 soldiers who were detained in Burkina Faso after a forced landing. The confirmation came on Wednesday night from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who said the aircraft and personnel had been released. He simply stated that they had been freed following diplomatic efforts. Their release followed a meeting in Ouagadougou between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Burkina Faso’s junta leader, Ibrahim Traoré. Tuggar, who led a Nigerian delegation, explained that the visit was at the request of President Bola Tinubu to resolve the incident and strengthen relations between both countries. The incident occurred nearly two weeks earlier when a Nigerian Air Force C-130 transport aircraft, carrying 11 soldiers, made a forced or precautionary landing in Bobo […]

Russia to Ban Foreign-Made Military Clothing from 2026

FG Deploys Passport Printers to New York, Atlanta to Ease Processing Delays

Nigerian diplomatic missions in the United States have installed passport printers in New York and Atlanta in a bid to reduce processing delays, the Acting Ambassador to the U.S., Samson Itegboje, announced on Sunday. Washington, D.C., now operates two printers, while New York and Atlanta each have one — a move expected to end the previous reliance on Washington for all passport production. Itegboje made the announcement during a joint virtual town hall meeting involving the Nigerian Embassy in Washington and the Consulates General in New York and Atlanta. The four-hour meeting drew hundreds of participants and addressed issues ranging from passport and visa services to investment opportunities, trade, and Nigeria’s image abroad. He noted that many delays arise from last-minute applications by Nigerians seeking urgent service. The meeting, he said, was aimed at listening to citizens’ concerns and finding […]

Federal Government Urges United States to Consult Nigerians on Visa Policy Revisions

The Federal Government on Friday urged the U.S. to directly and adequately engage Nigerians anytime there is a review of its visa laws, rules, and regulations to enhance better understanding and compliance. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, made the call when the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. Idris called on the envoy to ensure constant engagement with Nigerians on any new changes, considering that Nigerians travel to almost all parts of the world, including the U.S. Idris recalled that Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), had put out information cautioning Nigerians against the misuse of the U.S. visa. “And because we, Nigerians, travel a lot, it is good that information is shared with us, because these travels are done for tourism, education, […]
