Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the purchase of foreign-made clothing and related gear for the country’s armed forces starting January 1, 2026.
Under the new rules, all uniforms and other military apparel must be produced by Russian companies with manufacturing facilities located within the country. By 2027, the requirement will extend to fabrics and knitted materials used in production, which must also be domestically sourced.
The decree aims to fully eliminate the use of imported clothing and materials for military needs. Items covered include uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, footwear, special clothing, equipment, and sanitary supplies, all procured through the state defence order system.
