Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District on the Labour Party platform, has died in the UK while receiving medical treatment. Ezea was the only Labour Party senator from Enugu and the second South-East senator in two years to pass away, after Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of Anambra (July 2024).
The Senate expressed deep sorrow at his passing. Orji Uzor Kalu described Ezea as a humble, principled, and prayerful colleague, sharing memories of their friendship and mutual respect. Kalu extended condolences to Senate President Akpabio, Enugu’s governor, and Ezea’s family, describing the Senate’s loss as profound.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) recalled Ezea’s wisdom and prayers, saying his encouragement supported her through difficult times. She paid tribute to his gentle nature and voice in Parliament.
The Senate is expected to honor Ezea in plenary with a minute of silence, as is customary for deceased members.
