The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, says Nigeria owes frontline troops an immeasurable debt of gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. He praised them for staying vigilant across various theatres of operation while citizens celebrate Christmas with their families.
In a special tribute to troops, Oluyede said their discipline, professionalism and selfless service represent the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He noted that they continue to confront diverse threats to the country’s peace and security at great personal risk.
The CDS thanked Nigerians for their resilience, patriotism and continued support for the military despite the multiple security challenges facing the nation. He said Christmas is a season of love, sacrifice, hope and renewal, and a time to reflect on shared humanity and national responsibilities.
Oluyede stressed that citizens’ belief in the Nigerian project is a key source of strength and motivation for the armed forces. He added that trust, cooperation and synergy between the military and the public are essential for lasting peace and security across the country.
He reaffirmed that the military remains committed to its constitutional duty of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and democratic institutions. He assured troops that their welfare remains a top priority under his leadership.
Oluyede said the armed forces are working to improve living and working conditions for personnel and their families through better welfare packages, healthcare, accommodation and timely payment of allowances. He also pledged sustained support for the families of fallen heroes.
The CDS urged Nigerians to use the festive period to promote peace, tolerance and unity across ethnic, religious and cultural lines. He said the country’s diversity is a strength and that collective resolve is the foundation for a secure and prosperous Nigeria.
He called on members of the armed forces to reflect on the teachings of Christ, which emphasise peace, love, forgiveness, selflessness and service. He reminded them to remain disciplined, professional and loyal to the Constitution.
Oluyede asked personnel to uphold the values of honour, integrity and service to the nation at all times. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the armed forces.
The CDS also appealed to other security agencies for sustained collaboration and unity of effort in the joint task of safeguarding the country.
