Authorities say Allen was detained inside the Washington Hilton after security agents intervened during the incident on Saturday night. Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said initial findings suggest the suspect may have been specifically targeting government officials, potentially including former President Donald Trump. Blanche also said authorities are reviewing reports that the suspect may have assembled a weapon inside the hotel. He added that the […]

Rare Jaipur astrolabe heads to Sotheby’s auction
A rare 17th-century brass astrolabe, once part of the royal collection of Jaipur, is set to be auctioned at Sotheby's in London on 29 April, drawing strong interest from collectors and museums. The historic instrument, described as a handheld astronomical computer, belonged to the royal collection of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur before being passed to his wife, Maharani Gayatri Devi, and later entering a private collection. It has never been publicly exhibited. Experts say it is likely one of the largest astrolabes ever made. According to Sotheby’s specialists, its scale, condition, and royal provenance make it an exceptional piece of scientific and artistic heritage. Astrolabes were advanced instruments used in earlier centuries to measure time, track celestial bodies, determine direction, and perform complex astronomical calculations. They were also used for navigation and religious purposes, including finding the […]

Sawe makes history with sub-two marathon
The London Marathon witnessed a historic breakthrough as Sabastian Sawe delivered an extraordinary performance that redefined marathon running. The 30-year-old Kenyan claimed victory with a time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to complete a marathon in under two hours during an official competitive race. His time beats the previous record set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023 (2:00:35) by more than a minute. Before this, only Eliud Kipchoge had broken the two-hour barrier in 2019, but that performance was achieved under controlled conditions and was not officially recognized. Sawe’s run is therefore the first sub-two-hour marathon in a standard race setting. Sawe was already on record pace at the halfway mark, passing in 1:00:29. He maintained strong momentum in the second half and made a decisive move in the final 10 kilometers to secure his lead. Yomif Kejelcha was the […]

Speaking to reporters shortly after the incident, Trump described the presidency as an extremely dangerous role, despite the extensive protection provided by the Secret Service. The episode adds to a growing list of threats he has faced in recent years. The latest shooting occurred during the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, held at the Washington Hilton. Panic spread after gunshots were heard, prompting security agents to quickly evacuate Trump and Vice-President JD Vance from the venue. Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen. While his exact motive remains unclear, officials believe he may have been targeting senior government figures, potentially including the former president. Reports indicate he was armed with multiple […]

Trump cancels Pakistan talks triip says Iran war on hold
International efforts to broker peace between the United States and Iran hung in the balance on Sunday after President Donald Trump cancelled his envoys’ planned trip to Pakistan for talks. Trump said there was no point “sitting around talking about nothing,” dismissing Tehran’s opening position, but revealed that Iran quickly sent back a revised proposal after hearing the visit had been scrapped. “They gave us a paper that should have been better and, interestingly, immediately when I canceled it, within 10 minutes, we got a new paper that was much better,” he told reporters, without giving details. The White House had earlier announced that Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff would travel to Islamabad on Saturday for indirect talks with Iran aimed at moving “toward a deal.” Trump later told Fox News he called off […]

Coordinated attacks shake Mali, fighting ongoing
Explosions and heavy gunfire have been reported in Bamako as armed groups launched coordinated attacks across Mali. The military confirmed that fighting was ongoing, stating that defence and security forces were actively responding to the assaults. Witnesses reported intense gunfire and blasts around Kati, which hosts a key military base. Roads in the area were quickly sealed off by security forces. Attacks were also reported in northern cities such as Gao and Kidal, as well as Sévaré. Analysts describe the offensive as one of the most significant in recent years. Initial reports suggest that different armed groups may be involved. The Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), which seeks independence for northern Mali, is believed to have focused on northern targets. Meanwhile, the jihadist group Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) is suspected of carrying out simultaneous attacks in multiple locations. Although authorities […]

Mexico: US agents lacked approval for operation
The Mexico has said that two US agents who died in a car crash last weekend were not authorised to carry out operations on its territory. According to officials, the agents—reported to be linked to the CIA—had taken part in a raid targeting suspected drug laboratories in the northern state of Chihuahua. Their vehicle later veered off a mountain road and exploded. Following an investigation ordered by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s security ministry stated that neither agent had formal accreditation to participate in operational activities. It also confirmed that federal authorities had not been informed of their presence. Immigration records showed that one of the agents entered the country as a visitor, while the other travelled on a diplomatic passport. Mexican law prohibits foreign agents from engaging in operations without prior government approval. The crash, which occurred on 19 April, […]

Deadly Russian strikes hit multiple Ukraine cities
At least seven people have been killed in overnight Russian strikes across Ukraine, including five in the central city of Dnipro, where an apartment building was hit, according to local officials. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the assault lasted “practically all night,” with emergency teams still searching for survivors beneath the rubble on Saturday morning. During the attack, British fighter jets were scrambled from Romania after Russian drones were detected near the border. However, the UK Ministry of Defence denied reports that the aircraft had shot any down. At the same time, Ukrainian forces carried out long-range drone strikes deep inside Russia. In Yekaterinburg, nearly 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border, six people were injured after a building was struck. In nearby Chelyabinsk, authorities said drones targeting an industrial site were intercepted. Other Ukrainian cities, including Chernihiv, Odesa and Kharkiv, were […]
