Former England captain Sir David Beckham has become Britain’s first billionaire sportsman, according to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List. The collective wealth of Beckham and his wife Victoria has surged past the billion-pound mark, reaching an estimated £1.185bn this year.
The couple’s fortune has more than doubled from the £500m figure reported on the 2025 list, driven by fresh commercial deals, growing brand value and the rapid appreciation of Beckham’s stake in Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. Inter Miami, boosted by the arrival of Lionel Messi and associated commercial spin-offs, is now valued at around $1.45bn, making it MLS’s most valuable club.
Beckham’s long-running endorsement portfolio, which has included partnerships with Adidas, Tudor, EA Sports and others, continues to underpin his personal brand more than a decade after his retirement from professional football. On her part, Victoria Beckham’s fashion label has seen revenues climb above £100m, adding another strong income stream to the family’s finances.
The Rich List places the Beckhams second among sports-related fortunes, behind only the family of former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, whose wealth is estimated at about £2bn. Beckham’s rise to billionaire status caps a journey that has taken him from Manchester United’s famed Class of ’92 to global celebrity and boardroom influence.
Analysts say his success shows how modern athletes can turn sporting fame into enduring business empires through smart investments and careful brand management. It also fuels renewed speculation that the former midfielder could eventually receive further honours at home, following his knighthood and continued public prominence.
