Korle Bu Hospital Provides Free Heart Surgery for 27 Children.

The National Cardiothoracic Centre at Ghana’s Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has successfully completed 27 free heart surgeries for young children, including five open-heart and 22 keyhole procedures. The initiative was sponsored by Kinderherzen International, a Germany-based charity, and the Gerald Asamoah Foundation.More than 40 heart specialists arrived in Ghana last week to assist in these surgeries and supplied essential equipment and consumables to ensure continued support. Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, the Centre's Director, praised the foundations for their generosity, which has enabled the hospital to provide this life-saving care at no cost. The program aims to guarantee timely intervention for every Ghanaian child born with heart disease, regardless of financial means.Anja Schlarb, Head of Kinderherzen International, expressed her excitement about the program's success in Ghana, noting similar initiatives in countries like Eritrea and Burundi.

Ghana has seen a steady decline in cocoa output due to factors such as unfavorable weather, illegal mining, and smuggling, which have reduced production targets for the new season.

Porter Sentenced to 15 Years for Robbing and Causing Harm to Togolese Trader.

Alex Abubakari, a 27-year-old porter, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbing Kofi Ametepe, a Togolese trader. Abubakari, who pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and causing harm, attacked Ametepe on October 26, 2024, at the Bank of Africa Recreational Garden in Accra. He struck Ametepe on the head with a pavement block, rendering him unconscious, and stole his mobile phone and backpack.A witness alerted security personnel, who apprehended Abubakari and recovered the stolen items. Ametepe, who sustained severe head injuries, was treated at Ridge Hospital. Abubakari, a squatter at Afua Sutherland Park, admitted during interrogation that he committed the crime due to extreme hunger.The court sentenced him to 15 years for robbery and one year for causing harm, with both sentences to be served concurrently.

Aboboyaa’ Rider Jailed 6 Months for Killing Two-Year-Old in Road Accident, Ordered to Pay GHS6,000 Compensation.
