Vatican releases pictures of Pope Francis in open casket, confirms funeral will be on Saturday

Cardinals are meeting to plan the pontiff's funeral, which will be held on Saturday.  Pope Francis's funeral will take place outdoors in front of St Peter's Basilica. The dean of the College of Cardinals, Giovanni Battista Re, will lead the service. Dr Smith-Graham, who was the first CEO of the Commission from 2009 to 2017, is expected to officially assume office on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He takes over from Mr Benjamin Arthur, a labour relations expert, who had served as CEO of the Commission from January 2022. Volta Regional Police intercept ammunition bound for Benin

The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a large cache of ammunition on a commercial bus bound for Benin. The operation occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier. According to a police statement, officers on duty conducted a routine search on a Hyundai passenger bus with registration number GR 8246-Q. The vehicle, traveling from Accra to Benin, was found to be carrying 60 cartons of AAA cartridges (15,000 pieces) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (18,000 pieces). The ammunition was concealed in sacks and hidden beneath passengers’ luggage. The driver of the vehicle, Abasou Fousseni, 45, and his co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, 38, were both arrested for questioning.
