Police extradite fugitive to UK over murder, drug trafficking

The Nigeria Police Force has extradited a fugitive, Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi, to the United Kingdom over alleged involvement in murder and drug trafficking. The extradition was coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, following a formal request by UK authorities made in September 2024. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, said Adebiyi was wanted in connection with the alleged murder of 20‑year‑old Joshua Boadu on June 18, 2018, in the UK, after which he fled to Nigeria. He added that the suspect was also accused of participating in the supply of crack cocaine, a Class‑A controlled drug, between October 2017 and March 2018 in the United Kingdom. Adebiyi was arrested on January 23, 2025, by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja, and extradition proceedings were subsequently initiated at the Federal High Court in Lagos. The court granted the […]

US says it is optimistic about reaching peace deal with Iran

The United States is exploring a second round of peace talks with Iran in Pakistan and is “optimistic” about reaching a deal to end the ongoing war, US officials have said. A Pakistani delegation has arrived in Tehran with a new message from Washington after US President Donald Trump signalled that negotiations could resume this week, following last weekend’s failed talks in Islamabad. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that any further discussions would “very likely” take place again in Islamabad, adding: “Those discussions are being had, and we feel good about the prospects of a deal.” The renewed diplomatic push comes as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif intensifies shuttle diplomacy, including a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to support efforts to end the six‑week conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. Trump says Israel, Lebanon leaders to hold talks Thursday

US President Donald Trump says the leaders of Israel and Lebanon will speak on Thursday in what would be an unprecedented direct contact, though officials in both countries have yet to confirm any such plan. Trump’s comments came as Washington tries to ease hostilities after the first direct talks in decades between the two nations’ ambassadors, who met in the US capital this week. Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East war on March 2 when Hezbollah, the Iran‑backed armed group based in the country, launched attacks on Israel. Since then, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed more than 2,000 people and displaced over a million, despite international calls for a ceasefire, while Israeli ground forces have pushed into the country’s south. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said he was “trying to get a little breathing room between Israel and […]

Actor Damola Olatunji condemns OPM pastor’s ‘paid husband’ plan for autistic adopted daughter

Actor Damola Olatunji has condemned Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere’s move to marry off his 21-year-old autistic adopted daughter by offering incentives to any man willing to wed her. The Omega Power Ministry (OPM) founder recently announced on Facebook that he was seeking a husband for his daughter and promised financial support and housing to whoever agreed to marry her. Reacting in a statement, Olatunji said the situation “has crossed a line and must be addressed seriously,” questioning whether the young woman could genuinely give full, informed consent to marriage. He argued that instead of trying to arrange a marriage, Apostle Chibuzor should prioritise establishing a proper care home and support system to cater for her needs. “The key question to ask is: would this person genuinely choose to get married at 21 under normal circumstances, free from any external influence? If […]

Female circumcision best thing that happened to me – Actress Victoria Inyama

Actress Victoria Inyama has said that undergoing female circumcision was “the best thing” that happened to her, claiming it gives her a strong sense of control in her relationships. Speaking during an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, she revealed she was circumcised while growing up with her grandmother in the village. Inyama said the procedure gives her “power” over men and helps her set firm boundaries around intimacy. She argued that it is one reason no one can accuse her of being found in compromising situations. The actress insisted that her grandmother made the right decision, saying it has become a key source of her personal strength. “Yes, I was circumcised. Because I grew up in the village with my grandmother, and that is what is helping me. That’s the best thing they did for me,” she […]

Liverpool’s Ekitike set to miss World Cup after injury blow

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is set to miss the 2026 World Cup and the remainder of the season after suffering a severe Achilles tendon rupture during Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The 23-year-old French forward sustained the injury midway through the first half at Anfield when he planted his right foot to accelerate and immediately crumpled to the turf, clutching his lower leg. Reports indicate an expected recovery period of around nine months, ruling him out of France’s World Cup campaign and a significant part of next season. Ekitike, a £69 million summer signing, had to be stretchered off as visibly concerned teammates gathered around him. Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted after the match that the injury “looks really bad” but said a full prognosis would only be possible after further medical assessments. “Hugo looks really bad, but […]
