Trump Says He’s ‘Not Sure I’ll Make Heaven’ While Reflecting on Peace Efforts

United States President Donald Trump has expressed uncertainty about making heaven, even as he continues to receive international praise for brokering the ceasefire that ended the two-year war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday while en route to Israel, Trump joked about his faith and legacy, saying, “I’m being a little cute, I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in heaven. I think I’m maybe not heaven-bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly in Air Force One. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make heaven, but I’ve made life a lot better for a lot of people.” His comment came in response to a reporter who reminded him of his earlier remarks suggesting that achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine could help […]

US Mayor Questions Nigeria’s Anti-Terrorism Strategy During Fact-Finding Visit

Mike Arnold, the Republican Mayor of Blanco, Texas, has criticised Nigeria’s approach to combating terrorism, questioning why the country seeks financial assistance from the United States while rejecting foreign input on security issues. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Arnold said he found Nigeria’s stance contradictory. “I don’t understand why a nation that is mineral-rich as Nigeria has to go and beg for help to save her own people,” he said. “Nigeria has plenty of resources to help her people get at least something where they can help get stability. Displaced people are denied stability, their homes are bulldozed with no warning. It is horrific. You don’t want America to come here and speak on terrorism, but you want their money — that does not make sense to me whatsoever.” Arnold’s comments came during a fact-finding mission organised […]

Cameroon Opposition Leader Tchiroma Claims Election Victory

Cameroon’s opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary has declared victory in Sunday’s presidential election, challenging the long-standing rule of President Paul Biya, who has held power for 43 years. Tchiroma announced his self-proclaimed win on Facebook, saying, “Our victory is clear. It must be respected.” He urged the government to “accept the truth of the ballot box” or risk plunging the nation into unrest. The opposition leader also promised to release detailed results broken down by region. “The people have chosen,” Tchiroma stated, as he called on authorities to uphold what he described as the will of the people. Under Cameroonian law, while candidates are permitted to publish tally sheets, the official results are only valid when announced by the Constitutional Council — a boundary the government has warned must not be crossed. The situation recalls the 2018 election, when opposition […]

Russia Attacks UN Aid Convoy in Ukraine’s Kherson Region

Russian forces have struck a United Nations aid convoy in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack, which took place near the frontline town of Bilozerka, caused significant damage but no casualties. Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration, said the Russian strike involved both drones and artillery.“The occupiers deliberately targeted UN OCHA trucks with drones and artillery,” Prokudin stated on social media. He added that the convoy consisted of four vehicles—one was completely destroyed by fire, another severely damaged, while the remaining two escaped harm. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiga, condemned the attack, describing it as “another brutal violation of international law, proving Russia’s utter disregard for civilian lives and its international obligations.” A photo shared by Prokudin showed a white truck bearing the World Food Programme emblem engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke […]

UK Unemployment Rises to Highest in Over Four Years

The United Kingdom’s unemployment rate has climbed to its highest level in more than four years, adding pressure to the economy ahead of the government’s upcoming budget announcement. According to figures released on Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the unemployment rate rose to 4.8 percent in the three months to the end of August — the highest since early 2021. The rise in unemployment comes as Britain faces sluggish economic growth and persistently high inflation, roughly six weeks before the Labour government unveils its next tax and spending plans.
