OPC Urges Tinubu to Embrace US-Nigeria Collaboration Against Terrorists After Trump’s Threat

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has urged President Bola Tinubu to embrace robust collaboration with both local stakeholders and international partners to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in Nigeria. Their statement comes on the heels of US President Donald Trump’s public threat to deploy American forces to help Nigeria eradicate terror groups. OPC Secretary-General Olubunmi Fasehun reaffirmed the group’s commitment to Nigeria’s stability and urged Tinubu to consider the benefits of global cooperation. OPC proposes working closely with security agencies, police, and the military, while offering grassroots intelligence through its widespread network in the South-West and other regions. The group also asked the federal government to press US and other nations to freeze the assets of terrorism financiers globally. OPC stands ready to complement official security efforts—gathering intel, relaying suspicious activity, educating communities, and steering clear of jungle justice. They […]

NAF Airstrikes Kill Terrorists, Bandits Across Borno, Kwara, Katsina, and More

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified counter-terrorism and anti-bandit campaigns across the country, launching precision airstrikes that killed scores of ISWAP terrorists at Mallam Fatori and Shuwaram in Borno State. Strikes also destroyed bandit camps in Garin Dandi and Chigogo (Kwara) and Zango Hill (Kankara, Katsina). These coordinated missions are part of Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fasan Yamma, aimed at severely degrading criminal networks nationwide. Real-time intelligence guided the actions, resulting in destroyed hideouts, logistics centers, weapons storage, and the deaths of numerous dangerous elements. In Borno, ISWAP mobility was crippled, while multiple bandit enclaves in Kwara and Katsina suffered devastating losses. Armed reconnaissance expanded the reach into Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna, neutralizing targets along notorious bandit routes. A deadly clash between Boko Haram (JAS) and ISWAP factions in Abadam, Borno, resulted in over 100 deaths, further weakening […]

Syria’s Jihadist-Turned-President Caps Historic Transformation with White House Visit

Less than a year after a lightning rise to power, Syria’s President Ahmad al-Sharaa visits the White House, marking a dramatic shift from his past as a jihadist fighter to international statesman. The visit, the first by a Syrian head of state, comes as al-Sharaa aims to reshape Syria’s foreign relations and end diplomatic isolation imposed during the Assad regime. Al-Sharaa, formerly an Islamist insurgent who battled US forces in Iraq, later toppled the decades-long regime of Bashar al-Assad through a surprise offensive. He now advocates for lifting US sanctions and seeks American support to push Israel to halt attacks and withdraw from southern Syria. Despite some sanctions lifted after a Saudi-brokered Trump-Al-Sharaa meeting in May, the toughest US measures require congressional sign-off. The young leader is balancing ties between Moscow and Western states, conscious of Russia’s military influence and […]

Family Crisis: Senator Nwoko and Regina Daniels in War of Words

The highly-publicized marriage between Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and billionaire Senator Ned Nwoko is now in crisis, marred by bitter public accusations and counterclaims. Once considered a fairy-tale union, the relationship has devolved into explosive allegations, fueling intense media and social debate. Senator Nwoko claims to have supported Regina’s family with N125 million in two years, denying neglect and insisting the breakdown is due to Regina’s drug and alcohol use, violent outbursts, and property damage. He alleges she attacked several staff and moved out to live with “unrestricted access to drugs,” offering her rehabilitation options in response and strongly denying accusations of domestic violence. Regina Daniels refutes Nwoko’s accusations in an emotional video, declaring her marriage founded on love, not money. She says the real turmoil involves Nwoko allegedly having her siblings arrested to pressure her into rehab, and pledges […]

Several Democrats Side With Republicans to Pass Deal Ending Longest US Shutdown

Adekunle Olopade narrates a harrowing experience after being stopped by Nigerian police past midnight at a VGC checkpoint in Lagos. Despite offering his license and car documents (the car belonged to his mother), officers became aggressive, accused him of theft, forcibly searched his vehicle, and ultimately handcuffed him after forceful restraint and intimidation. Officers drove him—against his will—in an unmarked minibus to Area J Command, Elemero, Ibeju-Lekki, separated him, and forced him to write a statement under duress. He was not allowed to contact family or legal counsel, and only released after his mother identified the car and money was withdrawn for the officers. Adekunle recounts his emotional distress and humiliation, highlighting issues of police violence, abuse of power, bribery, and lack of due process in Nigeria. His story ends with a distressing realization about widespread abuse, advising others to […]

Several Democrats Side With Republicans to Pass Deal Ending Longest US Shutdown

The US Senate has passed a deal aimed at ending the longest government shutdown in American history, after a group of Democratic lawmakers reached an agreement with Republicans. The compromise legislation, which still needs House approval, will temporarily fund government programs through January, with the shutdown reaching 40 days. Some high-profile Democrats are upset that colleagues sided with Trump’s Republicans, deepening divisions in the party. The shutdown impacted around 1.4 million federal workers and disrupted services, including food aid and airport operations—over 10,000 flights were delayed on Sunday due to staffing shortages. Seven Democratic senators and one independent crossed the aisle, including Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), Dick Durbin (Illinois), John Fetterman (Pennsylvania), Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire), Tim Kaine (Virginia), Angus King (Maine, independent), Jacky Rosen (Nevada), and Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire). Only one Republican, Rand Paul (Kentucky), voted against, citing […]

UK to Review BBC Charter After Trump Speech Editing Scandal

The UK government will review the BBC’s Royal Charter in response to a scandal involving Panorama’s edited coverage of Donald Trump’s speech, which appeared to link him directly to the US Capitol attack. The controversy led to the resignations of Director General Tim Davie and CEO Deborah Turness, sparking fresh debate over BBC’s impartiality and governance. BBC chair Samir Shah described the resignations as a “sad day for the BBC” and is scheduled to address Parliament. The BBC is expected to apologise for the documentary’s misleading edit, which critics say spliced together Trump’s remarks to suggest direct incitement, omitting his call to “cheer on senators and congressmen.” Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said the review—set ahead of the 2027 renewal—will help the BBC “adapt to this new era.” The scandal comes as the BBC faces accusations of bias, including recent criticism […]
