Chelsea host Arsenal in high-stakes London derby as Man City face struggling Leeds

Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Sunday in one of the Premier League’s standout fixtures this weekend, with both London rivals looking to strengthen their positions in an increasingly tight title race. Arsenal’s sharp, well-organised attack will test a Chelsea side still searching for sustained consistency in what could prove an important early-season marker. Mikel Arteta’s men arrive in west London with growing confidence after a strong run of league form. Their frontline has been incisive, their pressing coordinated and their midfield balance continually improving, with pace out wide and fluid rotations expected to help them dominate possession for long spells. Chelsea, however, carry a notable counter-attacking threat that could unsettle the visitors if they exploit transitions well. The Blues are also buoyed by a commanding 3–0 Champions League victory over Barcelona, a result they hope will spark greater […]

US to review green cards from 19 ‘countries of concern’ after DC attack

The Trump administration has ordered a sweeping review of the immigration status of all US permanent residents from Afghanistan and 18 other “countries of concern” following the attack on National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. Officials linked the move to Wednesday’s shooting, in which the suspect was identified as a 29-year-old Afghan national who had previously worked with American forces in Afghanistan. According to AfghanEvac, an organisation that supports Afghans resettled in the US after the Taliban’s 2021 takeover, the suspect was granted asylum earlier this year rather than a green card. Despite that distinction, authorities said they would now scrutinise all permanent residents from the listed countries as part of a broader security reassessment. “I have directed a full-scale, rigorous reexamination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern,” Joseph Edlow, director of US Citizenship […]

Hong Kong housing estate inferno kills 128, hundreds still missing

The death toll from Hong Kong’s worst fire in decades has risen to 128, with around 200 people still missing after a blaze tore through the Wang Fuk Court housing estate in Tai Po district. Authorities said fire alarms in all eight residential blocks were malfunctioning, forcing residents to bang on doors and run from flat to flat to warn neighbours as flames spread. The fire began on Wednesday afternoon and raced through seven of the estate’s eight high-rise towers, turning the densely packed complex into an inferno. Fire services said the blaze, which burned for more than 40 hours, was largely extinguished by Friday morning after crews searched over 1,800 flats for survivors. Investigators believe the fire started in protective netting on the lower floors of one tower, with foam boards and bamboo scaffolding used for renovation work helping […]

50 Nigerians arrested in India drug busts

50 Nigerians arrested in India drug busts No fewer than 50 Nigerians have been arrested in one of India’s largest coordinated crackdowns on a transnational narcotics network. The suspects are accused of belonging to a sophisticated cartel that distributed drugs and laundered proceeds across several major Indian cities. According to Indian media, the operation was led by the Delhi Police in partnership with Telangana Police’s EAGLE unit and other state forces. Months of intelligence gathering culminated in simultaneous raids across Delhi, exposing key layers of a network moving methamphetamine and cocaine nationwide. Investigators found that the syndicate built an extensive customer base using encrypted communication and an app-style delivery system that mimicked food-delivery services to execute drug “dead drops” and avoid direct contact. Officials said the distribution chain was intertwined with a sex-trade ring, which provided cover and logistics for […]

Burna Boy empty seats row and the real cost of cancel culture

Burna Boy’s recent tour has ignited a global debate about cancel culture after conflicting images of his shows showed both packed arenas and worrying empty sections. Viral clips of thin crowds and cancelled dates were quickly framed online as proof that fans, especially in the United States, were “cancelling” the Afrobeats star for his behaviour and comments. The controversy escalated after footage surfaced of Burna Boy ordering a seemingly sleeping fan out of a concert, prompting outrage and calls for a boycott. Critics accused him of disrespecting supporters and acting with arrogance, while older clips in which he appeared to prefer “rich fans” resurfaced and further fuelled anger. Promoters in the US later confirmed that at least five arena dates were cancelled, citing weaker than expected ticket sales and a wave of refunds that followed the backlash. Some of the […]
