Onana dropped as new coach names Cameroon AFCON squad

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been left out of Cameroon’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the Indomitable Lions begin a new era under a fresh head coach. The new coach, whose appointment was recently confirmed by the Cameroon Football Federation, unveiled his first squad list ahead of the tournament, opting to reshuffle the team and leave out some experienced names, including Onana. Onana’s omission comes after a turbulent spell with the national team, marked by his temporary retirement following a dispute at the 2022 World Cup and a later return for international duty. The coach is believed to be focusing on rebuilding the squad around younger players and in‑form options, especially in key positions, as Cameroon aim for a strong performance at AFCON 2025. Reports indicate that the door has not been completely closed […]

Niger Puts Nationalised Uranium on Global Market

Niger’s military government has announced that uranium produced by Somair, a company it nationalised from French nuclear firm Orano in June, is now being offered on the international market. The move marks a new phase in the standoff between the junta, which seized power in 2023, and Orano, a group that is 90 percent owned by the French state and has mined uranium in Niger for decades. The decision was made public on state broadcaster Télé Sahel, quoting junta leader General Abdourahamane Tiani. He insisted Niger had the sovereign right to manage its natural resources and to sell them “to whoever wants to buy them” under normal market rules and in full independence. Russia has already signalled interest in Niger’s uranium, with Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev saying in July that Moscow wanted to start mining operations in the country. Since […]

Airbus Flags Quality Issue on A320 Fuselage Panels

Airbus has confirmed a quality issue affecting metal fuselage panels on a limited number of its popular A320 passenger jets but says the problem is contained. The planemaker said it has identified the supplier involved and is now inspecting all potentially affected aircraft, although only a portion is expected to need any corrective work. According to Airbus, all newly produced panels already meet required standards, and production is continuing. News of the checks initially sent the company’s shares down by more than 10 per cent in Paris before the stock recovered some of its losses later in the day. The fresh concern emerged shortly after Airbus warned that around 6,000 A320 family aircraft worldwide require a safety related software update.
