The Nigeria Police Force has restated plans to resume full enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy from 2 January 2026, citing rising criminal activities involving vehicles with unlawfully tinted windows. South Africa raids US-linked refugee centre, to deport Kenyans over illegal work

South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has arrested seven Kenyan nationals during a raid on a centre in Johannesburg that processes applications for people seeking resettlement in the United States. Earlier applications for proper work visas for Kenyan staff at the facility had been rejected, but the individuals allegedly took up employment regardless. During the raid, authorities said they found seven Kenyan nationals actively engaged in work despite only holding visitor visas. UK logs 2025 as sunniest year on record, Met Office confirms

Meteorologists say Britain, often known for cloudy and wet weather, has just experienced its sunniest year on record in 2025. Provisional Met Office data show that by 15 December the UK had already recorded around 1,622 hours of sunshine, surpassing the previous full-year record set in 2003. Forecasters attribute the exceptional sunshine to frequent periods of high pressure that dominated much of the year, reducing cloud cover and locking in clear skies for long stretches. Apart from February and October, every month in 2025 recorded above-average sunshine hours, making the year stand out even by recent warmer, sunnier standards. Spring 2025 was particularly remarkable and is described as the sunniest and warmest spring on record for the UK, as well as the driest in more than 50 years. With about 653 hours of sunshine, spring alone was 43 per cent […]

Australian PM links Bondi Beach mass shooting to Islamic State ideology

Australian authorities say a father and son, Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed, opened fire on crowds gathered at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening during a Hanukkah celebration, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more. Officials believe the attack was aimed at terrorising Australia’s Jewish community, making it one of the country’s deadliest mass shootings in decades. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said early investigations suggest the pair were motivated by “Islamic State ideology”, describing it as an “ideology of hate” that has fuelled extremism worldwide for more than a decade. Police later said they found improvised explosive devices and two homemade ISIS-style flags in a car registered to Naveed that was parked near the beach. New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed that officers recovered the bombs and flags after the shooting. Investigators are now examining the […]
