Why single women shouldn’t live alone – Pere Egbi

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Pere Egbi has advised young single women in Nigeria not to live alone, saying it is safer to have someone stay with them. In a post on X, Pere urged women to live with a friend or family member for both companionship and security. “Personal advice to young women living in Nigeria who are single, don’t live alone by yourself. Have someone stay with you always. A friend, family member/s. It’s never a cool thing to live alone as a woman,” he wrote. His comments follow the recent death of Abuja based female singer Ifunanya Nwangene, who reportedly died after a snake bite at her residence. When a follower asked if his advice was connected to her case, Pere replied “everything,” adding that, in his view, living alone is not ideal for anyone, male or […]

Age, eligibility rules blocked my Man United move — Mikel

Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that strict age and eligibility regulations prevented him from joining Manchester United, despite the Premier League giants’ strong interest when he was a teenager. In an interview with Sky Sports, Mikel said he was just 16 when he spent about a month training at Old Trafford, regularly working with the United first team under Sir Alex Ferguson. The legendary manager, he recalled, was keen to keep him at the club. However, Premier League work‑permit and eligibility rules for non‑European players blocked the move. At the time, foreign players from outside Europe were required to have played in at least 75 per cent of their national team’s recent senior matches to qualify. Mikel had not yet featured for Nigeria’s senior side, so he did not meet the criteria. He added […]

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has temporarily suspended the selection of examination towns for 2026 UTME candidates registering in Ekiti State. State govts to share electricity subsidy costs with FG — Presidency

The Federal Government says state governments will now jointly bear the cost of electricity subsidy along with the centre, following a directive by President Bola Tinubu to restructure how power subsidies are funded. According to Vanguard, funding for electricity subsidies will be channelled through the Power Assistance Consumers Fund (PCAF), a government backed pool created to support low income and vulnerable households with targeted bill relief instead of blanket subsidies. Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, disclosed the new policy at a 2026 Post Budget Preparation workshop in Abuja, saying states that enjoy the political benefits of low electricity tariffs must also help fill the financing gap created by subsidies. In remarks delivered on his behalf by Director of Expenditure (Social), Yusuf Muhammed, Yakubu quoted the President as directing that a “clearer framework” be operationalised […]
